**Job Summary:** The Outreach and Engagement Specialist will champion the reputation of midwifery in Alberta, creating opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and strengthening external relationships with key audiences.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Outreach and Engagement Specialist is responsible for external partner engagement; community outreach. This role advances the organization's mission by championing and enhancing the overall reputation of midwifery in Alberta; creating opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and strengthening external relationships with key audiences, including midwifery clients, policymakers, health care professionals and other partners.

The Alberta Association of Midwives has been the professional body that serves a passionate community of midwives and the midwifery profession in Alberta since 1986. As primary health care providers, registered midwives deliver high quality, safe, and cost-effective care during pregnancy, labor, birth, and 6-weeks postpartum.

The Canadian midwifery model of care is based on four core principles: continuity of care, informed choice, evidence-based practices, and choice of birth setting. Alberta midwives practice in a sustainable way by delivering midwifery services that aligns with this model.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Create a Health Professions Outreach and Engagement Plan.
  • Develop resources/tools to meet the needs of the underserved populations.
  • Map health profession communities and identify priority interprofessional relationships.
  • Build connections with leaders of post-secondary education programs, associations and key primary health organizations.
  • Establish an annual plan to identify and act on opportunities to provide education, presentations, events, panel discussions aimed at external audiences.
  • Develop evaluation tools to measure and report on above opportunities.
  • Develop an organizational inventory for engagement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Public Health, Midwifery, Public Policy or Project Management.
  • 3 to 5 years of recent related experience providing leadership and oversight to community outreach, resource and policy development, and communications of a non-for-profit entity.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Experience in community relationship management, including reporting and analysis.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to report, model, and present information.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks, and provide credible analyses and business recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to professionally connect with and influence a diverse group of individuals.
  • Solid leadership skills with the ability to lead projects and work with diverse individuals to identify issues, design solutions, and evaluate results.
  • Advocate for and apply principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours is required.
