Our company operates from its base in the Niagara Region with facilities across Canada and the United States, employing over 1,200 people in various industries.
About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to coordinate the health and safety process within our Walker region. As a Health and Safety Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that all employees work in a safe manner and are properly trained to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Promote and Reinforce Safety Initiatives: Develop and implement superior safety initiatives throughout your area of coverage to ensure work is completed in a safe manner while adhering to legislated standards and company Safety Management System (SMS) policies.
- Assist in Creating SOPs: Provide assistance in creating site-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and adherence to safety protocols.
- Plan and Administer Health and Safety Training: Plan, coordinate, and administer health and safety training programs, including SMS topics, new employee orientations, and start-up training.
- Review and Analyze Safety Data: Review workplace inspection reports, safety meeting minutes, and other safety data to prepare and provide weekly reports to the Health and Safety Manager and the VP of Health and Safety.
- Conduct On-Site Inspections and Audits: Perform on-site inspections and audits of physical conditions of various business units to assess sites, compile results, and develop corrective action plans.
- Support Joint Health and Safety Committees: Provide support and mentoring to the Joint Health & Safety Committees for all business units by attending meetings and reviewing minutes to ensure that issues and concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
- Support Incident Investigations: Provide site support for incident investigations and assist in the creation and distribution of safety alerts and innovations.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Knowledge of Legislative Requirements: Knowledge of legislative requirements of multiple jurisdictions as well as best practices.
- Presentation and Facilitation Skills: Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills to effectively train team members.
- Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and keep accurate records to track training requirements and record incident details.
- Computer Software Skills: Demonstrated computer software skills to produce documents, reports, and presentations as required.
- Business Acumen: Demonstrated understanding of quality standards relative to health and safety initiatives.
- Communication Skills: Proficient communication skills, both oral and written, to disseminate information with clarity, in one-on-one or group situations, or over the telephone.
We are seeking a candidate with a minimum high school graduation, plus an additional college Occupational Health and Safety diploma or a university degree in OHS. Working towards a CRSP designation is an asset. Adult learning theory would be an asset. Greater than one year but less than or equal to two years of health and safety experience is required.
