Superintendent Job Opportunity at Aecon

Aecon, a Canadian leader in infrastructure development, is seeking a skilled Superintendent to join its Urban Transportation Solutions group. As a Superintendent, you will play a key role in supporting dynamic transit projects in Canada, promoting a Safety-First culture, and leading a multidisciplinary operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and lead a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Aecon's Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Track and report project quality control, resource requirements, and customer or labour relations.
  • Ensure Superintendent compliance with all assignments, project policies, and procedures.
  • Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Subcontractors, Foreman, and crews perform to meet production goals.
  • Assist the Foreman to translate drawings, specifications, and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan, and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
  • Work with the Project Manager and Project Director to identify equipment and labour resource requirements and to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules, and budgets.
  • Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress.
  • Document reporting of and maintaining in good repair all company-owned and rented tools, equipment, and assets.
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in a superintendent position in the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary operations team including foremen, project coordinators, field engineers, and unionized craft employees.
  • Experience managing work in a self-performing work environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the applicable OH&S legislation.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
