Job Overview

The Shift Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for guiding a team of maintenance professionals and specialists dedicated to ensuring that mail processing and handling machinery operates at peak efficiency and adheres to established standards and regulations. This role emphasizes the execution of preventative maintenance initiatives in line with maintenance schedules and protocols. The Superintendent also oversees corrective maintenance, emergency repairs, and comprehensive overhauls. A strong focus on workplace safety is paramount, ensuring quality through direct oversight and follow-up. In the absence of the Scheduling Superintendent, this position will also handle scheduling responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties and expectations for the Shift Maintenance Superintendent include:

1. Directing the implementation of maintenance programs for mail processing and handling equipment to ensure compliance with performance metrics (KPI) and regulatory standards.

2. Maximizing equipment efficiency through the execution of preventative maintenance strategies aligned with maintenance schedules and guidelines.

3. Collaborating with the Scheduling Superintendent to adjust schedules and provide updates on completed and pending work. Engaging in scheduling and planning for corrective maintenance as necessary.

4. Supervising corrective and emergency maintenance tasks to guarantee they are performed safely, accurately, and effectively to enhance equipment uptime.

5. Fostering a safe working environment by providing necessary training, documentation, personal protective equipment, tools, and established protocols. Safety remains a priority in all work practices, encouraging team members to share ideas and initiatives.

6. Assigning qualified personnel to efficiently carry out maintenance programs and repairs. Performing comprehensive staff management duties at the first management level.

7. Ensuring sufficient labor and material resources are available to implement maintenance programs and repairs; supplying current technical reference materials for maintenance staff.

Continued Responsibilities

8. Guaranteeing that work orders, logs, and other documentation are thorough, precise, and submitted in accordance with policy.

9. Offering technical assistance to facilitate the implementation and monitoring of approved projects.

10. Managing maintenance and support contracts with external service providers.

11. Acting as a liaison between Canada Post Corporation and facilities management, overseeing contracted building services in certain locations.

12. Staying informed about emerging technologies, maintenance practices, and management techniques through relevant training.

13. Ensuring ongoing development of skilled staff through succession planning and training initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a High School diploma).

Experience

• A post-secondary degree or diploma in mechanical, electrical, electronics, or a related field AND a minimum of 2 years' experience managing a team in a unionized setting OR

• At least 5 years of recent experience in coaching, mentoring, and/or supervising employees or contractors in an industrial maintenance environment AND

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Assets

• Red Seal designation (Millwright or Industrial Electrician) or designation as PEng, EIT, or CET.

• Experience in industries reliant on rotating equipment or conveyor systems for material handling.

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to Lockout Tag Out procedures and Working at Heights.

• Experience with CMMS asset management systems, preferably MAXIMO.
