Our Chalk River Laboratory site is looking for an Decommissioning Field Engineer to ensures that field activities are planned and implemented in accordance with CNL policies and procedures, and project management processes, to meet Customer requirements. Facilities Decommissioning projects encompass planning, managing and completing large and complex decommissioning projects to the full satisfaction of Project Clients.

What will you be doing

  • Providing oversight of changes in the field during the implementation activities in the decommissioning portfolio.
  • Preparing detailed decommissioning work packages, technical documents, work scopes, procedures, and estimates and schedules in support of decommissioning projects.
  • Providing innovative solutions to decommissioning and waste management challenges.
  • Performing field walk downs to verify status of facilities against documented plans and coordinating and monitoring services provided to Decommissioning by external suppliers.
  • Participating or leading Pre/Post Job reviews.
  • Interfacing with design participants, operations engineers, technical staff, and nuclear operators obtaining technical input, as required, to meet Project and Client requirements.
  • Ensuring that deliverables meet the quality objectives of the project and ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Identifying, assessing and initiating changes to approved designs, work scope, budgets, and schedules following applicable change control processes.
  • Traveling to external suppliers, as required, to effectively execute the implementation phases of the project.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for :

  • Education
    • Honours Bachelor degree in engineering or applied science from a university of recognized standing and Member of a provincial professional engineering association with a minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
    • Membership in Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
  • Experience
    • Experience with decommissioning a nuclear facility is an asset.
    • Experienced in dealing with engineering contractors.
    • Experience in a nuclear operational or decommissioning environment.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to think logically through complex problems, to work under pressure, with conflicting priorities, and regulatory requirements.
    • Good writing skills - must be able to gather, analyze, and assemble a variety of technical information.
    • Capable of interpreting complex drawings and specifications in either paper or electronic format.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Outlook), and CNL's formal document template and approved forms.
    • Sound knowledge of the National Building Code and National Fire Code and other relevant codes and standards used in the design, construction, and commissioning of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
    • Familiarity with the specific safety regulations, guidelines, standards and codes relevant to the decommissioning process.
    • Knowledge and application of radiation protections principles, measurements and contamination control.
    • Knowledge of CNL's practices, procedures and organization.
    • Willing to travel from time to time, as necessary.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Location :

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL's Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee. CNL's Chalk River laboratory is nestled in the Ottawa Valley and affords our employees an area that is environmentally pristine with extensive forests, hills and numerous small lakes, all of which support a variety of wildlife typical to the southern edge of the Canadian Shield.
