Community Outreach Worker (COW)

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Worker (COW) to join our team. As a COW, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to individuals and families in our community.

About the Role

  • Provide a range of clinical services, including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment.
  • Work in both clinic and community settings, navigating and advocating for clients and their families.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with organizations and agencies within the community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, clients, and family members to create and enrich linkages and resources.

About You

  • Bachelor of Social Work degree.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • One year post-Bachelor's degree clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Screening and risk assessment skills, including suicide risk assessment.
  • Excellent assessment skills and ability to implement an evidence-based plan of care.
  • Working knowledge of the DSM.
  • Experience in offering brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery.
  • Ability to navigate and de-escalate situations and offer crisis support.
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to use motivational interviewing skills and engage with clients/families.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and program development methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recovery-oriented practice and client-centered care.
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health and its importance to decision formulation.
  • Knowledge and experience with a trauma-informed care approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound and reliable clinical decisions.

What We Offer

  • Permanent Part-Time position; 45 hours biweekly.
  • $42.01 hourly.
