Senior Buyer Job Description

A Senior Buyer is responsible for coordinating procurement activities, gathering information, and performing contract maintenance for a buying group.

Nova Scotia Health is a leading provider of health services in Nova Scotia, with a mission to achieve excellence in health, healing, and learning. We operate hospitals, health centres, and community-based programs across the province, providing a variety of high-quality inpatient and outpatient services.

The Senior Buyer will work closely with the Procurement Manager to gather information related to contract costing, analysis, and statistical reporting. They will also act as a liaison between vendors and end users, monitoring and evaluating buying decision rationale, contract value, and expiry dates.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Grade 12 and completion of a two-year program in Business, IT, Supply Chain, or equivalent
  • Three years of related experience
  • Enrollment in Purchasing Management Association of Canada Program Courses (an asset)
  • Experience in a Procurement, Materials Management department involving Purchasing Principles, Inventory Management, and E-Commerce practices
  • SAP experience (preferred)
  • Excellent negotiation and project management skills
  • Familiarity with legal requirements of contracts
  • Effective time management skills
  • Oral, written, interpretation, and communication skills
  • Competencies in other languages (preferred); French (an asset)

The Senior Buyer will be responsible for:

  • Preparing request for quotations for goods and services that fall under public procurement thresholds
  • Creating and amending Agreements
  • Issuing purchase orders
  • Providing procurement quality control, reviewing, and auditing of contract files

Hours and Compensation

  • Permanent / Full-Time / 75 Hours Bi-weekly
  • $32.58 Hourly
