Summary

As part of the Development Team led by the Head of Development – this is a development executive position within the Original Programming team at Bell Media

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluating pitches and developing scripted programming for Bell Media's channels
  • Proven ability to provide written feedback on creative materials
  • Communicating and meeting with producers, writers and agents showing a high level of awareness of the television market in Canada and internationally, and articulating the current development strategy for Bell Media channels and platforms
  • Proactively identify and develop new material, trends, and new talent, through keeping abreast of Canadian and International television, movies, and an awareness of the book market
  • Read submissions, respond, and write rejection letters relating to all levels of submissions
  • Developing and enhancing strong relationships with independent producers, key crew, directors, and agents
  • Working closely with the rest of the Original Programming team to maximize opportunities and create content which has the highest possible creative and production values, and which achieves high ratings and the most subscribers and furthers the strategic objectives of the channels and the company
  • Liaising with Independent production community and funders of programming
  • Acting as a representative of the company and the department at events, conferences, and other public activities
Critical Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years' experience both in production and development in television for a production company and/or broadcaster
  • Significant knowledge of television production and strong relationships with Canadian television's creative community
  • Excellent creative instincts and passion for Canadian programming and for scripted television programs in particular
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the larger team of creative executives which make up the Original Programming team.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Sound business judgment and superior organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to travel on an as needed basis.
