RPN Trauma Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our Trauma Neurosurgery Unit at St. Michael's Hospital. As an RPN in this fast-paced inpatient setting, you will work collaboratively with inter-professional teams to provide holistic, evidence-based care to patients from various specialties, including neurosurgery and trauma.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide autonomous nursing care to patients with stable and predictable outcomes, while collaborating with other team members to optimize patient care and outcomes.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, and engage them in care planning to promote wellness and safety.
  • Coordinate and communicate patient care activities to ensure seamless transitions and optimal resource utilization.
  • Participate in hospital committees and groups to represent the RPN perspective and serve as a bridge to unit and patient needs.
  • Engage in self-reflection, performance review, and ongoing learning to enhance professional practice and patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a Practical Nursing Diploma Program.
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (General or Temporary Class).
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Must have worked as an RPN within the last year.
  • Must have inpatient surgical ward experience within the last 2 years or placement experience on inpatient surgical ward within the last 2 years.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professions/disciplines in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Proven planning, time management, organization, and coordination skills.
  • Experience caring for patients post-operatively.
  • Excellent patient teaching skills.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional and educational development.
