Seeking experienced legal counsel to provide advice and support to a leading international mid-size bank in Canada.
In this role, you will report to the Chief Compliance Officer and be responsible for reviewing contracts, providing legal advice, and managing external counsel relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review contracts and agreements, providing legal advice on legal and regulatory matters
- Manage external counsel relationships
- Support the CCO with all legal and litigation matters
- Maintain a strong understanding of relevant legal and regulatory requirements
- Support capital markets, securities, and advisory opportunities
- Assist with the development of policies and compliance matters
- Provide training to staff on legal and compliance matters
- Represent the legal Department on special projects, new product proposals, and risk management initiatives
- Draft, review, and be familiar with applicable terms of use and draft changes to such documentation and procedures when required
- Advise on, draft, and negotiate agreements with business clients
- Assess legal and reputational risk of new initiatives or changes to existing products and services
Requirements:
- Law degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Canada
- 2 years of experience practicing law
- Superior analytical and communication skills in legal and business settings
- Ability to work independently on multiple files and prioritize them effectively while meeting deadlines
- Familiarity with and ability to stay current with legislation and regulations governing products and services
