The Director, Finance is a key member of the senior management leadership team, responsible for overseeing the financial health and stability of the organization. This encompasses strategic financial planning, risk management, financial reporting, accounting, and budgeting across all subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the organization's financial strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall corporate strategy.
  • Oversee financial risk management, identifying and mitigating potential risks to the organization's financial stability.
  • Analyze financial performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Advise senior management on financial matters and provide strategic recommendations to drive growth and profitability.

Financial Reporting and Accounting:

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, complying with all relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, ensuring a smooth and efficient audit process.
  • Oversee internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Lead a team of financial professionals, including managers of corporate financial planning and analysis, accounting, and financial reporting.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the annual budget for all subsidiaries.
  • Manage the forecasting process, providing regular updates to senior management on financial performance.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Develop and implement cost control measures to improve profitability.
  • Manage the electricity rate submission process for Hydro Ottawa Limited.

Education and Experience:

  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum 10 years of financial management experience in an increasingly senior and more responsible roles
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic financial planning, risk management, and financial reporting
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of financial professionals
  • Experience in liaising with external auditors
  • Experience in liaising with internal / external senior management and executives with an excellent understanding of overall business cycles, requirements, and priorities
  • Ability for strategic decision making that can materially affect the financial performance of the company
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to strategically lead the function as well as to provide direction, development, and growth opportunities for a team of professionals
  • Ability to deal with non-routine situations in the absence of complete information
  • Ability to apply business savvy to participate in corporate decisions with potentially large financial implications
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace
  • Knowledge of the utility industry, working in a regulated environment, and the related financial proceedings considered an asset
  • English essential, both oral and written; bilingual English/French considered an asset

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
