About Us: Ottawa Public Library (OPL) provides accessible, innovative library and information services throughout the City of Ottawa, meeting the unique needs of diverse communities with a citizen-centred approach.

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Coordinator, Community or District Branch to join our team. As a key member of our Branch Operations department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional public service, leading by example, and demonstrating integrity, creativity, and enthusiasm in achieving results directly and through staff work teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide the full range of readers advisory and reference services, including answering library users' queries, advising them in their selection of material, and assisting them in the use of the catalogue and other tools.
  • Ensure that appropriate levels and types of programming and user education activities are available to the public.
  • Conduct tours and group visits.
  • Make recommendations for the development of demographic profiles for Branches in the cluster.
  • Carry out collection development duties, including recommending items for retention, disposal, or replacement, and making recommendations for purchase to fill gaps in the collection.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an accredited library school.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressively increased responsibilities in public service and staff supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of management principles, including policy and procedural development, human resource management, budgeting, and monitoring.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead by example, demonstrate integrity, creativity, and enthusiasm in achieving results directly and through staff work teams.
  • Well-developed organizational skills, including the ability to evaluate existing methods and procedures, analyze alternatives, and develop and implement effective solutions or changes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with a focus on customer service and conflict resolution.

Language Requirements:

  • English oral, reading, and writing required.
  • French oral, reading, and writing required for one position.
