Job Description

As a Recreation Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering recreation activities that promote the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and cultural well-being of our residents.

Responsibilities
  • Engage residents through regular conversation and build meaningful relationships
  • Assist with program coordination and implementation, ensuring a seamless experience for our residents
  • Provide one-on-one support to residents, tailoring activities to meet their unique needs and interests
  • Observe and report on resident care and services, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety
  • Assist with coordinating volunteers and community resources, fostering a sense of community and connection
  • Collaborate with peers to coordinate activities, promoting a team-oriented approach
  • Manage recreation equipment, including inventory and maintenance concerns, to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment
  • Set up and clean up after events and activities, maintaining a tidy and welcoming space
  • Operate in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, prioritizing the safety and well-being of our residents and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational requirements, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
Hours of Work
  • 58 hours bi-weekly, with a mix of weekdays, evenings and weekends
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in a residential care setting is preferred, but not required
  • Completion of high school diploma, with a focus on customer service and communication
  • Valid provincial class 4 driver's license is an asset, but not required
  • Completion of CPR and First Aid is an asset, demonstrating a commitment to resident safety and well-being
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate is preferred, but not required
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with peers, residents, visitors and operational partners
  • Superior organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple requests and priorities
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate resident needs and preferences
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and problem-solve, thinking critically and creatively
