Database Support Specialist

About This Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate individual to join our team. As a Database Support Specialist, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day database and application-related support to end-users, writing and utilizing SQL scripts, and liaising with application vendors to troubleshoot issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day database and application-related support to end-users.
  • Write and utilize SQL scripts, database reports, CMD files, Shell and Visual Basic scripts, and other commonly used programming languages.
  • Liaise with application vendors to troubleshoot issues on behalf of end-users.
  • Assist the Business Systems and Application Support team with the implementation of system applications and related updates/upgrades.
  • Perform application maintenance, including bug fixing and modifications to existing applications when required.
Business/Process Improvement Support
  • Support the gathering, understanding, and documentation of business requirements to ensure that the end result meets the stakeholders' needs.
  • Participate as a project team member and provide expertise and governance where required with respect to tasks under your responsibility.
  • Develop or assist others in the development of documentation, process mapping, business cases, justifications, and project-related documentation.
  • Support the design of test cases and scenarios.
  • Execute test cases.
  • Assist in troubleshooting system issues related to business knowledge and business processes.
Database Administration and Support
  • Support the management of critical application databases.
  • Install and create database servers.
  • Perform database backup and recovery.
  • Manage user access.
  • Write and utilize SQL scripts, application and database reports, CMD files, Shell and Visual Basic scripts, and other commonly used programming languages.
  • Liaise with vendors to troubleshoot issues on behalf of end-users.
  • Support the planning and implementation of platform-related updates/upgrades.
  • Support the execution of patches, updates, and upgrades.
Requirements
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of related experience, including intermediate to advanced level of SQL skills.
  • Technical certifications from a recognized Information Technology institute.
  • Understanding of Business Analyst skillsets.
  • Understanding of Project Management Concepts.
  • Understanding of Process Mapping Concepts.
  • Understanding of Problem Solving Concepts.
  • Strong Technical Writing and research skills.
  • Ability to draw out information and understand end-user needs.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at one time.
  • Ability to focus for long periods of time.
