SCOPE:

Reporting to the VP Sales Marketing & Customer Experience, the Director, Corporate Sponsorship will be responsible for the development and execution of the corporate sales plan in all things related to the successful generation of revenues through sponsorship and sales.

From a marketing perspective, the Director will be responsible for the development of product positioning, marketing materials and other sales tools. As well, the Director will be instrumental in determining where and how the organization focuses its time and energy in the development of new revenue generating initiatives relating to the sponsorship side of our business. The Director will be expected to take a lead role in the company's ongoing need to stay current with industry standards and opportunities.

On the sales front, the Director will work with the VP Sales Marketing & Customer Experience to identify and develop sales based initiatives and programs designed to meet the sponsorship revenue objectives for the corporation. The Director will be a key member of the opportunity assessment team, have the responsibility for readying any such initiatives to take to the marketplace and assist in the execution of any related components for on-site delivery. As well, the Director will seek out and establish strategic alliances with industry partners for the purpose of furthering the attractiveness and salability of any and all Canlan Sports based products and programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Marketing & Branding

  • Lead sales efforts, working closely with the VP Sales Marketing & Customer Experience, including the development and execution of sales strategies in all segments of the revenue opportunity area including but not limited to sponsorship and advertising within all known areas of opportunity.
  • Establishing both a Strategic Sales Plan and Sales & Marketing Action Plan for the department. In addition, the Director will develop an annual operating plan and execute against all objectives as set.
  • Manage the development of marketing materials needed to support the sponsorship and sales initiatives, in conjunction with the Director, Marketing & Customer Experience. This includes brand definition and communication through various media, direct-to-consumer, channel, facility, event and partnership marketing.
  • To assist the Director, Marketing & Customer Experience and the marketing department staff, when necessary or required, in the development of marketing materials in support of sponsorship and sales.
  • Partnering with IT resources and the Marketing Department via the Director, Marketing & Customer Experience, with responsibility for the ongoing development of Canlan Sports' websites with respect to development of revenue generating initiatives and partner opportunity.
  • To provide a sales perspective to the development and implementation of key technology tools. This may include playing an active role in the ongoing relationships with these service providers from time to time.
  • To assist in the development of potential sponsorship and sales initiatives relative to the company's e-marketing and e-commerce strategy, in conjunction with the VP Sales Marketing & Customer Experience and COO.
  • To work closely with the Director, Marketing & Customer Experience to mine the information provided to the corporation via our technology based initiatives, in order to maximize revenue generation through sponsorship and sales.

Sales and CRM:

  • Be a key member of Canlan Sports opportunity assessment team. This will include sourcing new sales based initiatives as identified internally and/or evaluating initiatives and programs that are presented to the organization from external partners
  • Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the potential sponsor and advertising partner database on contact history

Leadership & Management:

  • Foster an environment that encourages full contribution to the overall company objectives. Supports a culture of teamwork, mutual support and respect.
  • Conduct regular sponsorship and sales report meetings on a weekly basis with the VP Sales Marketing & Customer Experience, for the purpose of reviewing ongoing projects and timelines.
  • Regular sales reporting.

Partnering within the Organization

  • Seek input from the operations group to ensure the partner process is working effectively and to better understand the evolving requirements of operations.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
  • University Degree, preferably in Business/Marketing with 5 - 7 years' experience in marketing management.
  • Previous experience with Brand definition, direct-to-consumer, channel, event and partnership marketing.
  • Solid experience and demonstrated success in the area of sales and/or business development. This should include hands-on experience in the development of successful sales action plans, the hiring and/or supervision of direct sales personnel and a history that demonstrates direct sales responsibility.
  • A very strong understanding of the sales process and the demonstrated ability to meet achievement based sales objectives.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills and feel comfortable presenting before peers and customers.
  • Strong skills in market analysis, definition and roll out of marketing programs, and marketing communications.
  • Strong project management skills with the demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure, managing resources and several projects simultaneously.
  • Solid knowledge in technology and infrastructure. This should include strong computing skills (MS Office and CRM systems).
  • Solid administration skills – the ability to develop and manage budgets.
  • Previous supervisory experience and excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Can work independently and interdependently to meet aggressive deadlines.
