About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Radiology Support Aide to join our team at Royal Columbian Hospital. As a key member of our medical imaging team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Prepare supplies for procedural examinations, including gathering and setting up equipment, pouring sterile solutions, and opening sterile packaging.
  2. Assist technical and/or nursing staff in procedural rooms, setting up biopsy trays, sorting and labeling specimens, and providing support and comfort to clients during procedures.
  3. Transport clients to and from required areas, utilizing prescribed safety techniques and mechanical aides such as stretchers and wheelchairs.
  4. Assist with mobilization of clients, positioning, lifting, and/or transferring clients on and off beds, treatment tables, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
  5. Provide support to clients in waiting and holding areas, assisting with dressing or bathroom care, supplying blankets or bedpans, and observing client condition.
  6. Monitor inventories in procedure rooms, utility areas, supply cupboards, carts, and outpatient areas, reviewing supplies, initiating and completing purchase requisitions, and notifying Supervisor/delegate as applicable.
  7. Assist in inventory counts, counting supply items, recording numbers on costing sheets, and forwarding to Supervisor for verification and input into computer database.
  8. Clean and maintain wheelchairs and stretchers, checking and replacing linen and/or oxygen/suction supplies, spot-cleaning equipment, and performing equipment counts and reporting repair requirements to Supervisor.
  9. Use personal protective equipment and prepare supply trays for Central Supply room, rinsing equipment, packaging items, and checking to ensure all implements are present.
  10. Maintain work area, cleaning items such as ultrasound probes, imaging equipment, procedural trays, and personal protective equipment.
  11. Observe and monitor patient/client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, reporting significant observations to Registered Nurse or designate.
  12. Provide assistance in emergent situations, notifying applicable personnel, responding to requests for equipment/supplies, and relaying information as directed.
  13. Transport items such as exam results or specimens to and from Radiology, various wards, Pharmacy, or Laboratory Medicine.
  14. Perform clerical duties, answering telephones, arranging additional porter support, and transporting client films and/or requisitions as directed by Supervisor.
  15. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements, immediately reporting unsafe situations to Supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
Requirements

Successful graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program and one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, ability to deal with others effectively, physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, ability to organize work, and ability to operate related equipment.
