About the project: First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle Settlement On October 24, 2023, the Federal Court approved the Settlement Agreement for the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle (FNCFSJP) Class Action (the Settlement).
The Settlement Agreement includes $23.34 billion in compensation for impacted First Nations individuals and some of their family members.This agreement intends to compensate those harmed by discriminatory underfunding of the First Nations Child and Family Services program and those impacted by the federal government's narrow interpretation of Jordan's Principle.
The Caregiving Parents or the Caregiving Grandparents of children who were removed from their homes or denied access to an essential service may also be able to receive compensation.
Castlemain's role in implementing the FNCFSJP Settlement – Claims Helper Program is to assist the Claims Administrator in providing claim form assistance to Class Members in the Claims Process as outlined in the Settlement Agreement Schedule I, Framework for Supports for Claimants in Compensation Process in a culturally safe and trauma informed way.
Our guiding purpose is to provide compassionate and skillful Claim Form assistance to Class Members.We offer practical support by helping with the completion of Claim Forms, providing information to help Claimants understand the details of the Settlement and Claims Process, and fostering supportive interactions with Claimants throughout.
Furthermore, we are dedicated to ensuring that Claimants are well-informed about the wellness support and resources available to them.About the Role Reporting to the Program's Service Design and Experience Lead, the Communications Director supports Claims Helpers by developing tailored communications materials, coordinating communication deliverables between communities, delivering internal communications, and participating in the issues management processes for the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle Settlement.
The role is important in ensuring a First Nations approach to communications that support the Claims Helpers in their work to increase awareness of the Settlement and the resources available, and their direct support to Class Members.
The Communications Director is also liaison between the Claims Helpers and the Settlement communications team to ensure the execution of community and Claimant communications aligns with the overall strategy as it evolves.
Responsibilities will include:
Implementing communications strategies and supporting Claims Helpers as they promote the Settlement and support Claimants.
Leading communications support for the Claims Helpers via a complex program involving audience analysis, message development, tactic selection, media relations support, measurement, and evaluation.
Providing mentorship, management, and coaching to support the growth of team members, including direct oversight of one communications consultant. Working in an integrated model with the Settlement communications team to design, implement and measure complex national campaigns. Building strong client relationships and rapport, through being responsive and solutions oriented. Interpreting and recommending courses of action based on data trends (media, social, call centre, community) for continuous improvement. Participating in issues management processes – advising corporate communications about on-the-ground experiences and executing response strategies. Leading implementation of internal project communications to keep team members informed of organizational, program, or project-related updates.Keeping up to date on industry trends, insights, topics and best practices while assisting in the development and implementation of communications solutions.
Incorporating cultural sensitivity and a trauma-informed perspective into all planning and execution, acknowledging and respecting the diverse traditions and values of First Nations communities.
What we're looking for:
7+ years' experience in the communications/public relations or similar profession and demonstrated experience in communications with and for Indigenous audiences.
A degree, diploma, or certificate in corporate communications, public relations, marketing communications, business communications, journalism, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience developing and executing communication strategies and developing supporting materials, such as messaging, PowerPoints, web content, social posts, and more.
Experience with media and social media monitoring and performance measurement to identify trends, issues, and opportunities and proactively recommend solutions.
Excellent organizational and project management capabilities; experience work planning and managing budgets, client relationships, and teams and/or subcontractors.Understands the complexities of Indigenous communities, knowledge of the long-lasting impacts of colonization with a strong personal commitment to reconciliation.
Exceptional writer and editor, ensuring quality of materials and supporting plain, straightforward language in a complex legal environment. Excellent at problem-solving and critical thinking with an aptitude for identifying potential challenges and proactively suggesting solutions.Empathetic listener and quick analytical thinker who can respond accurately to concerns of Indigenous Partners and communities; able to use tact and diplomacy in sensitive situations.
Capable of meeting tight deadlines and executing projects with high attention to detail in a fast-paced, often pressured environment. Can work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.Proficiency in MS Office 365 – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Additional Considerations:
Self-identifying as Indigenous and/or having first-hand knowledge or experience living in and/or working with an Indigenous community will be considered an asset.
Experience with social media, developing protocols for community management and content for various channels and media types. Direct media relations and/or issues management experience. Familiarity with working in regulated or legal environments. Le rôle de Castlemain dans la mise en œuvre du règlement SEFPNPJ – Programme des agents de soutien aux réclamations est d'aider l'administrateur des réclamations à fournir une aide relative aux formulaires de réclamation aux membres du recours collectif dans le cadre du processus de réclamation, comme cela est énoncé à l'annexe I de l'entente de règlement, Cadre visant les services de soutien offerts aux réclamants dans le cadre du processus d'indemnisation, de manière appropriée sur le plan culturel et tenant compte des traumatismes.

À propos du rôle :
Relevant du chef de la conception et de l'expérience des services du programme, le directeur des communications soutient les agents de soutien aux réclamations en élaborant des documents de communication sur mesure, en coordonnant les produits livrables en matière de communication entre les communautés, en assurant les communications internes et en participant aux processus de gestion des enjeux pour le règlement relatif aux services à l'enfance et à la famille des Premières nations et au principe de Jordan.
Ce rôle est important pour garantir une approche des Premières nations en matière de communication, afin de soutenir les agents de soutien aux revendications dans leur travail de sensibilisation au règlement et aux ressources disponibles, ainsi que dans leur soutien direct aux membres du recours collectif.
Le directeur des communications assure également la liaison entre les agents de soutien aux réclamations et l'équipe de communication du règlement pour veiller à ce que l'exécution des communications avec la communauté et les réclamants s'aligne sur la stratégie globale au fur et à mesure de son évolution.
Les responsabilités sont les suivantes :
Mettre en œuvre des stratégies de communication et soutenir les agents de soutien aux réclamations dans leur travail de promotion du règlement et de soutien aux réclamants.
Diriger le soutien à la communication pour les agents de soutien aux réclamations au moyen d'un programme complexe impliquant l'analyse de l'audience, l'élaboration de messages, la sélection de tactiques, le soutien aux relations avec les médias, la mesure et l'évaluation.
Assurer le mentorat, la gestion et le coaching pour soutenir la croissance des membres de l'équipe, y compris la supervision directe d'un consultant en communication.
Travailler dans le cadre d'un modèle intégré avec l'équipe de communication du règlement pour concevoir, mettre en œuvre et mesurer des campagnes nationales complexes.
Établir des relations et des rapports solides avec les clients, en étant réactif et orienté vers les solutions.Interpréter et recommander des plans d'action fondés sur les tendances des données (médias, sociales, centre d'appel, communauté) en vue d'une amélioration continue.
