The Opportunity:


Our client located in Peterborough, Ontario, is in search of a Senior Project Engineer to join their Structural (Bridge) Department. This role offers the chance to manage multiple projects from inception to completion, focusing on bridge engineering. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your expertise in preliminary project planning, design, tender preparation, construction management, and post-construction evaluation.


What You’ll Be Doing:


  • Develop project schedules, track progress, and implement controls.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, and report on project status.
  • Liaise with clients to define project scope and deliverables, maintaining consistent communication and support.
  • Prepare and present project reports to clients, covering progress, costs, schedule, risks, and areas of concern.
  • Coordinate with engineering and design teams throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with professionals from other disciplines to ensure comprehensive project completion.
  • Lead the project team, including subcontractors and consultants, assigning tasks and ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Review designs for completeness, constructability, safety, and adherence to design criteria.
  • Ensure design integrity from development to construction through all phases.
  • Provide senior-level review of technical reports and ensure compliance with external requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections as required.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Attend and participate in project-related meetings, record meeting notes, and provide progress updates on deliverables.
  • Stamp and sign engineering drawings and reports under your responsibility.


What You’ll Need to Be Successful:


  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of Ontario.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, with three (3) years of project management experience.
  • Must have experience working on projects for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO).
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), and MTO manuals and design standards.
  • Extensive experience with tender, RFP, RFQ submissions, and contract administration.
  • Proficiency in managing structural systems, materials, and technologies.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
  • Experience with site inspections and providing senior-level reviews of technical documents.
