Project Control Lead

As the Project Controls Lead, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of civil projects by effectively overseeing and implementing project control processes and systems to effectively manage construction projects. This includes planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and performance monitoring to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

This role requires a seasoned professional with experience in mining, heavy civil excavation, and working on remote fly-in fly-out sites. Your expertise in cost control, change management, and invoicing will be essential in managing projects up to $100M.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Oversee cost control, change management, and invoicing for large-scale mining projects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with First Nations and diverse teams, fostering strong relationships and ensuring project success.
  • Team Coordination: Manage and coordinate with teams ranging from small groups to larger crews, ensuring effective communication and project alignment.
  • Initiative and Direction: Take initiative in problem-solving while effectively following directions from project leads.
  • Experience with Contractors: Utilize your extensive background working with major construction companies

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in mining and heavy civil excavation, specifically in remote and fly-in fly-out settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with First Nations communities.
  • Extensive experience working with contractors on various projects, detailing your roles and contributions.
  • Strong project controls skills, particularly in cost control, change management, and invoicing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative while also following directions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, and/or a combination of related field experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or document management systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, ERP software, 4castplus, P6 scheduling, would be a definite asset.



Responsibilities:


  • Develop detailed project plans, including work breakdown structures (WBS), critical path analysis, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with project teams to establish realistic and achievable project schedules.
  • Establish and maintain project budgets, tracking expenditures and ensure adherence to financial constraints.
  • Monitor and analyze cost trends, providing insights and recommendations for cost optimization and maintaining project schedules using project management software.
  • Conduct regular schedule reviews, identifying potential delays and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Identify project risks and develop risk mitigation plans.
  • Regularly assess and update risk registers, communicating potential impacts to the project team.
  • Implement performance metrics to track project progress against established baselines.
  • Generate and distribute regular reports on project status, highlighting key performance indicators.
  • Evaluate and assess the impact of changes on project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Work with project teams to develop change orders and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Facilitate effective communication among project stakeholders, ensuring alignment on project objectives.
  • Provide clear and concise updates to management and project teams.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate project control processes into overall project management activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including schedules, budgets and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
