Position Summary

The supportive care aide provides person-centered care to residents to promote the comfort, safety, and quality of life of Finlandia Nursing Home/Finlandia Village residents. Under the direction of the Director of Care and/or the Director of Therapy Services, the Supportive Care Aide provides supportive care to residents to promote the engagement, stimulation, comfort, safety, and quality of life of the residents of Finlandia Village. A Supportive Care Aide will ensure that the standards of care and service align with the vision, mission, and performance standards of Finlandia Village. In addition, the Supportive Care Aide is responsible for assisting in leisure activities based on established objectives, goals, and procedures. The Supportive Care Aide is entitled to assist in other departments as required or as directed by the Director.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual care for residents.
  • Assist with meals, eating, portering, and daily programming.
  • Encourage and aid in participation with life enrichment programs, including assisting to and from activities.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment according to protocols, including light housekeeping and proper care of equipment.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Secondary school.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a geriatric setting an asset.
  • Knowledge of crafts, handiwork, and hands-on experience will be beneficial.
  • Finnish speaking skill is considered an asset.
  • An acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check verified within the past six months.
  • 2-step TB test within the past six months.

Physical Demands

  • Standing, sitting, portering, crouching, stooping, pushing, reaching, pulling.
