BACKGROUND
The Rental Protection Fund Society (RPF) is a non-profit society whose purposes are to facilitate the acquisition, stabilization, development, renewal, and retention of real estate assets in British Columbia to support affordable rental and cooperative housing. The Society is governed by the Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA), BC NonProfit Housing Association (BCNPHA) and the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC). The Province of British Columbia has provided an initial investment of $500 million to provide capital grants to non-profit housing organizations so they can purchase rental buildings and ownership co-operatives available for sale.
THE ROLE
As a key member of the RPF team, the Finance Manager will work with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Investment Officer on all financial administration, business planning, and budgeting. This role will involve close collaboration with the Board of Directors, internal staff, and other stakeholders. The organization is growing rapidly with significant potential, and we are looking for a new team member interested in the same.
Major Responsibilities
Strategy
- Work with the senior management team to develop business cases for new programs and services.
- Support long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the strategic plan.
- Provide recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
Financial and Operational Management
- Support budgeting, implementation of budgets, monitor progress, and present operational metrics.
- Ensure that finance staff maintain financial record systems in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Support the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics.
- Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
- Support all audit activities.
- Evaluate and oversee benefit negotiations, ensuring competitive packages.
- Review all formal finance, HR, and IT related procedures, processes, administration, and regulatory filings, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing systems going forward.
CAPABILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or administration.
- 5 years of experience in finance, operations, and administration, ideally in the non-profit sector, demonstrating progressive responsibilities.
- Experience with operational planning, budget development, and staff management.
- Skill in financial, HR, and technology policies and procedures.
- Teamwork, integrity, and initiative.
- Strong communicator.
- Strong commitment to developing team members.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
