As a result of their national growth, our client (with headquarters in Toronto and offices across Canada) is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Director, Legal & Lease Documentation to lead and develop a team serving corporate national needs. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced legal professional to advance their career with a well-respected firm, combining entrepreneurial deal-making with sophisticated, tech-savvy processes.
The Opportunity
The ideal candidate is a licensed legal professional with extensive experience in commercial real estate who is seeking a challenging leadership role with a competitive salary and significant growth potential. You will have the drive and determination to enhance business processes and ensure timely, accurate delivery of legal and lease documents.
Given that the Director, Legal & Lease Documentation is responsible for managing all aspects of legal documentation under the guidance of the Vice President of National Services, a proven ability to train and mentor a team, negotiate and draft lease agreements, and oversee the preparation of lease-related documents is crucial. You will also be tasked with collaborating with team members and business teams to improve processes and minimize risks. Building strong relationships within the legal community and with external legal firms is an essential component of this role.
Keys to Success
The successful candidate will have 10-15 years of progressive experience in contract management, commercial lease negotiation, and lease administration. A thorough knowledge of leases and related documents relevant to commercial real estate is essential.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Paralegal, Commerce, or Business Administration.
Experience: Minimum 10-15 years in contract management, commercial lease negotiation, or lease administration.
Skills:
- Attention to detail and strong ability to draft complex leases and all related legal documents, with strong preference given to those with commercial lease documentation experience.
- Proven ability to provide legal guidance to leasing and real estate management
- Proficient in legal language and both analyzing and negotiating lease and legal terms and conditions.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal software; familiarity with VTS is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative relationships across multiple departments and levels.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Availability to work in the office five days a week.
- Willingness to travel to regional offices within Canada as needed.
A comprehensive job description is also available.
What We Offer
This well-respected and forward-thinking organization offers an attractive compensation package that includes a competitive salary and bonus structure, benefits, and other great incentives such as an RRSP program, fitness allowance and regular team events. This role is based out of our Toronto head office, located in the core of the financial district with easy access to excellent amenities, services and transit.
