Communications and Constituency Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree and communications related experience


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fulfill Member’s priorities in Constituency.
  • Managing and monitoring of MP’s Constituency schedule.
  • Monitoring MP’s main email account and corresponding questions/concerns.
  • Keeping MPs calendar up to date with meetings and events.
  • Anticipating and monitoring emerging issues at the federal, provincial, and local level
  • Staff the Member at local events or meetings as required, follow up with stakeholders
  • Prepare event packages, speaking notes, and pre-plan member’s event attendance.
  • Plan and execute MP’s community outreach activities.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the MP as requested, record meeting notes, and conduct all necessary follow up/action items.
  • Provide regular updates to the MP on local issues.
  • Assist caseworkers with case management


Outreach Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the Member is connecting with the community and stakeholders regularly, building positive relationships
  • Looking for and developing new relationships with community members and stakeholders


Communications Support:

  • Draft, edit, and review social media posts
  • Develop speaking points, key messages, and briefing material


Constituency Office Operations

  • Assist in managing the Constituency Office, including processing and handling all incoming phone calls, email, and postal mail.
  • As directed by the MP, coordinate the recruitment and supervision of interns, volunteers and/or summer students.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Contract; some evening and weekend work is required.
  • Primary location of work: Brampton
