Reporting to the Sr. Director, Wireless Access Network Planning and Engineering, this role primarily manages the standards team for wireless access civil and equipment engineering, construction and build practices in alignment with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and business objectives across all regions of Canada. This role will also manage the Regional Civil and Equipment engineering teams and assure completion of engineering for all wireless projects. We are open to hire for our Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver location.
Who we're looking for:
- Lead and develop Civil and Equipment Engineering Standards and Regional Civil and Equipment Engineering teams.
- Develop and publish civil and equipment design engineering standards, installation guidelines, technical bulletins etc. for use by the regional field operations, regional network implementation and external consultants & contractors for wireless cell site augmentation and construction.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation (Civil and Equipment Engineering Database) on network configuration and approve and document field changes to ensure that access network documentation is current and reflects the network image.
- Ensure Civil infrastructure compliance on all applicable safety codes, standards and Rogers Health and Safety rules. Ensure all tower inspections and repairs are done as per applicable civil regulations.
- Manage and provide technical direction and support to ensure high quality standards are followed for Work order preparation detailing transmission and IP design, dc power dimensioning, MSC, BSC, RBS and BTS interface assignments and equipment details in support of network projects involving GSM, UMTS/HSDPA, LTE, 5G, Small Cells, Sigtran, SS7, Messaging, Hi-speed data networks and wireless network services and features.
- Prepare regional civil and equipment work orders and hardware requisitions. Make sure that civil and equipment engineering WO are issued on time for all wireless programs.
- Support for Field Operations, Network Implementation, Radio Engineering, Transmission, and Equipment Engineering as needed for resolution of civil infrastructure issues.
- Assist regional engineering, real estate and project management groups as required in acquisition/construction of new network facilities and modification of existing ones.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation on network configuration and approve and document field changes to ensure that access network documentation is current and reflects the network image.
- The successful candidate will be a results-oriented leader with extensive industry knowledge in the area of equipment standards, practices, products and services.
- Managing a team of technical staff as well as outsourced resources and consultants to support and manage all wireless access related equipment build, standards and support activities.
- You will look for ways to effectively support the delivery of major program builds in a cost effective and timely manner, while seeking ways to improve work order intervals and timelines.
You will be accountable to:
- Develop and update national civil and equipment infrastructure standards & guidelines.
- Deliver on all capital projects per plans including infrastructure as required.
- Source new innovative products to improve cost efficiencies and Customer Experience.
- Ensuring engineering database integrity and records are accurate.
- Ensure that all work performed meets engineering standards and guidelines.
- Liaison with Procurement to manage equipment products and services.
- Ensure internal customers are fully supported for timely work orders and network standards.
- Ensure all performance objectives are clear and communicated to staff to ensure alignment across the business.
- You are a seasoned people leader with a university degree or equivalent in an equipment engineering or operational discipline with 10+ years’ experience in the telecom field. You have proven leadership skills and have demonstrated the ability to lead a team to develop complex solutions facing multiple priorities. Professional Engineering designation an asset.
