Position Summary

The Training & Engagement Coordinator is an in-scope middle management position reporting to the Executive Regional Director or designate. The incumbent is primarily responsible for initiating, implementing, supervising, and monitoring programs consistent with the College program plan. The Senior Coordinator also plays a significant role in identifying community or industry needs, developing partnerships, developing, and recommending policy or procedure modifications, and evaluating and adapting programs.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Coordinator, has diverse duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • take an entrepreneurial, community-responsive approach to identify and offer program and training in the various communities and for business and industry on an identified need basis
  • initiate and implement programs consistent with the College program plan and in response to community, business, and industry needs
  • conduct needs assessment, research existing curricula and programs from other training providers to determine their suitability, recommend suitable programs, prepare training proposals
  • determine resource requirements for the program, prepare budgets and contracts, advertise programs, recruit and select learners, recruit instructors, coordinate learner and staff travel, secure facilities, order learner books and program supplies, and provide appropriate and timely documentation to other departments (e.g., learner registration forms, tuition and book forms)

Responsibilities

  • monitor program delivery:
  • orient, supervise, and evaluate instructors, consultants, and administrative program staff; resolve conflicts; verify and authorize staff time sheets and travel claims; and provide suggestions on staff professional development
  • monitor budget expenditures, amend budgets if required, and replenish supplies
  • inform staff on College policy and procedures and adhere to Collective Agreement
  • ensure adherence to program curriculum
  • monitor learner attendance and assist instructors in resolving conflicts and implementing the disciplinary process
  • conduct follow-up and evaluate program effectiveness in meeting community/industry needs
  • provide timely reports to the Executive Regional Director, funding agencies, and other partners
  • provide timely follow-up documents to other departments (e.g., learner overdue accounts and arrears forms, exit forms, etc.)
  • provide programming information to learners, training partners, and the general public through phone conversations, e-mail, in-person meetings, and class visits
  • assist in developing or modifying College policy and procedures
  • assist in marketing educational programming and promoting the College image
  • develop program curriculum, course content, and/or training manuals as assigned
  • participate (may also organize) in meetings with funding agencies, community contacts, educational, community, and industry partners, and College learners and staff
  • represent the College or their region on committees

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Occupying a leadership position and being responsible for coordinating a large number and wide variety of projects, the Senior Coordinator should bring the following attributes to the position:

  • proven organizational skills that allow handling multiple projects at the same time while ensuring that the details in each project are dealt with in a timely fashion
  • proven ability to practice effective time management and prioritize work
  • knowledge of modern managerial practices, office procedures, and business communication
  • supervisory skills in managing personnel, evaluating performance, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
  • proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions while maintaining good judgement in keeping the Executive Regional Director, coworkers, partners, and learners apprised of important developments
  • intermediate computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet software as well as corporate systems software
  • knowledge of adult learning theories and teaching strategies
  • understanding of northern Saskatchewan and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
