About Us:


GeologicAI is a Calgary-based business developing and deploying new technologies for the mining and energy sectors. We build innovative geological robots that scan rocks using a wide variety of sensors, develop and train machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms and systems to analyze and interpret the scan data, and build software to maximize the utility of results for discovering and extracting natural resources. Being part of the R&D team puts you in front of all the data we collect from the fleet of scanners deployed to active sites and within our shops. We interact with internal departments and external clients to innovate new products and enhance existing products, which involves advanced data mining, feature extraction, machine learning, and AI applications to be implemented and discoveries to be made.


Roles and Responsibilities

• Champion the operations simulation initiative given a release document with changes to processing code, you leverage your experience to determine whether the change will break something downstream in production

• Build a script-based User Acceptance Testing (UAT) master dataset

• Create datasets with challenging core for R&D development & testing

• Be responsible for testing release changes and the effects on the rest of the processing pipeline

• Create a comprehensive report of the testing strategy taken to perform UAT

• User acceptance testing for R&D-based products that are executed using the GDM. This will involve collaboration with the R&D Production Operations team to ensure we deliver high quality and meaningful products to operations.

• Provide feedback to the R&D team based on new tests that can be designed into the release process to catch errors early

• Design of experiments for increasing our understanding of scanning sensors functionalities, sensitivities and applications. This will involve collaboration with R&D, Engineering, and Geoscience teams to create high fidelity experiments, preparing materials, and executing them.

• Preparing materials for experiments. These may be natural geological materials or synthetic materials depending on the projects. It is expected that you build on your knowledge of geological materials and how our sensors respond to them.

• Experimental scanning and associated data processing. You are expected to learn methods for preparing and mining data and conducting initial exploratory data analysis to vet the collected data for further analysis. It is expected that you build on your programming and statistical knowledge with assistance of scripts from the R&D to accomplish these tasks.

• Geological interpretation support for product development efforts and scanning experiments. This will involve studying relevant geological settings associated with the clients we scan core for and staying up to date on associated mineralogy and geochemical associations.

• Software quality assurance testing of software developed within the broader organization. This responsibility is to be done in parallel with experiments that involve scanning and using these interfaces.

• Documentation of experimental processes, findings and learnings as well as clean and concise documentation on the geological interpretation and rationale of developed products that are used by clients and the Geoscience team.

• Collaborate with R&D, and Geoscience teams to contribute to the creation of standard operating procedures.


Qualifications & Skills

• BSc in Engineering/Geology

• Experience scanning with GeologicAI equipment and sensors.

• Experience with collecting, managing, and reporting on large data sets.

• Experience with laboratory testing processes.

• Some experience with data science, statistics and programming in Python.

• Good written and oral communication skills.


Growth

This position is a critical component of innovating and developing new products for clients, where products are either driven by client requests or by internal innovation and original research. Experimentation and quality assurance are the two primary subjects of the position, which has the potential to evolve into a focused team associated with the roles described. A large volume of data is collected from a variety of geological settings, and there are settings we have not yet scanned that we must proactively study and relate to the scans we collect through experimentation. Team growth to accomplish this is necessary, opening the possibility for team lead positions.
