Job Overview


The Vice-President (VP), Philanthropy reports directly to the President and CEO. The VP, Philanthropy is a member of the Executive Team and is an ambassador for the organization in their ability to cultivate transformational relationships and engage with stakeholders of Parkinson Canada. The role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of Parkinson Canada’s philanthropy strategy. As lead of the Philanthropy department, the VP work close with the VP, Brand Strategy, Marketing and Communications in establishing a donor-centric voice for the organization and is responsible for the maintenance and growth of a strong fundraising pipeline through all donor levels. The VP, Philanthropy believes in transformational leadership, collaboration and has the agility to respond to an everchanging environment and communicate the vision of the organization to all stakeholders with clarity and confidence. They have a proven track record of cultivating and nurturing relationships that move stakeholders from awareness to action.


Please note, this role is remote in nature, however, Canada wide travel is required from time to time. We estimate travel to be 10%.


What You’ll Be Doing


Management of Team:

  • Lead and empower the Fundraising team, including, hiring, performance management, accountability, annual reviews and professional development with a focus on succession planning.
  • As a member of the Executive Team, inspire and motivate the team around a shared vision across Parkinson Canada and its role as a supportive catalyst, facilitator, and leader of continuous improvement.
  • Promote a culture of high-performance, creativity, and innovation that taps into the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment of the team.
  • Personify and foster the values of teamwork, respect, trust, and collaboration.
  • Develop and track program budget and key performance indicators against goals to promptly identify challenges and solutions
  • Lead and/or participate on cross functional teams and projects to support high quality services to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain continuing and active relationships between Parkinson Canada and its various committees, volunteer groups, and corporate supporters, and Board of Directors, including for the purpose of ensuring they are all active contributors in the overall fundraising effort.
  • Inspire and effectively communicate the vision and goals for the key strategic priorities of the fundraising team
  • Lead the transformational organizational change of the fundraising team to align with structure and organizational strategy
  • Effectively lead cross-collaboration across departments to ensure alignment and synergies are identified
  • Lead the programmatic changes that have been identified in the strategic plan while considering the risk and benefits and ensuring scalability


Fundraising:

  • Lead in the development and execution of operational plans for all revenue streams and develop benchmarks to measure and monitor performance.
  • Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the fundraising strategy for Parkinson Canada, including major gift campaigns, corporate, individual and planned giving, endowments, events and special events in conjunction with corporate partners to meet annual operational and endowment targets.
  • Identify funding sources and work with the team in preparing proposals as required for special projects, such as conferences, research projects, planning processes; provide support to the preparation of proposals and relevant reports for government, foundation or corporate funding.
  • Strengthen the organization’s geographic scope of support and sustainably expand into underserved markets
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the effective cultivation, management, stewardship, and appropriate recognition of all donors and funding relationships, including but not limited to individual donors, major gift donors and corporate partners.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of high-net-worth donors to secure transformational gifts. Leverage the contributions and networks of the Board of Directors, Campaign Cabinet and other senior volunteers
  • Work closely with the CEO to develop, steward and solicit major gift fundraising portfolio.


Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of progressive fundraising experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Comfort in closing major and planned gifts, with demonstrated track record of securing gifts in the $100,000 plus range
  • Highly creative orientation; systems thinker with the ability to translate organization priorities and essence to all stakeholder audiences
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal for internal and external stakeholder audiences
  • Strategic planning, budgeting and financial management skills Experience in a fast-paced, active environment preferably one experiencing transformative change
  • Demonstrated experience in change management and ability to think out of the box
  • Knowledge of diverse giving vehicles and integrated gift strategies
  • Highly entrepreneurial, consistently looking to "raise the bar"
  • An energetic and nimble self-starter with the ability to work independently and with teams
  • Diplomatic, tactful and poised about complex issues
  • Effective project and time management capabilities and organizational skills, with proven ability to meet strict and competing deadlines, for multiple projects, in a fast-paced environment
  • Empathetic and aware of interpersonal dynamics. High emotional intelligence to guide interactions with staff, donors and people living with Parkinson’s alike
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and an excellent understanding of nature/complexity of issues as they relate to Parkinson’s
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and conceptual skills.
  • Ethical fundraiser with a commitment to upholding Donor Bill of Rights, Imagine Canada Standards and general best practices in fulfilling philanthropic intentions of donors. Knowledge of CRA fundraising rules and guidelines
  • CFRE or similar designation an asset.
  • Experience in developing and leading a fundraising campaign (capital and/or comprehensive campaign)
