We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and proven leader to join our team as Senior Director, Strategy and Planning, Corporate Affairs and Communications. The successful candidate will have experience in a large enterprise setting, and will have successfully planned, crafted and helped execute cross-functional reputation and communication strategies, along with overseeing departmental planning exercises.

Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Communications, this role will be instrumental in shaping communication planning and strategic initiatives across the Corporate Affairs and Communications function and the broader enterprise. This role is key in driving alignment between corporate objectives and communication strategies. Acting as a thought partner, facilitator, planner and project manager, this role is pivotal in helping shape Loblaw’s reputation, fostering collaboration across the enterprise and externally, and being a key partner to the broader Corporate Affairs and Communications team in executing and delivering on its goals. This position works within an extremely fast paced environment, characterized by ambiguity and rapidly evolving challenges, opportunities and goals. This individual will need to be able to shift seamlessly between strategic thinking and tactical execution as the need arises.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as day-to-day champion in coordinating and activating the Company’s reputation strategy and execution in collaboration with other department and cross-functional leaders.
  • Lead the function’s annual strategic planning process. Working with the SVP, Corporate Affairs and Communications and other senior leaders in the department, lead the development and implementation of strategic and operating plans for Corporate Affairs and Communications in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify strategic priorities and provide insights to support decision-making processes.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of industry trends, competitive landscape, and stakeholder expectations to inform strategic direction and approaches. Continuously assess and refine strategies to adapt to evolving business needs and external factors.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of Corporate Affairs and Communications initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and implement best practices across the division.
  • Support the business in delivering projects by executing project management deliverables, working with relevant functional leaders, defining project plans, developing key performance metrics and creating follow up plans to sustain.
  • Provide advice and counsel to the SVP and senior leaders regarding projects, program roll-out, ensuring efficient process delivery and change management principles.
Project Management:
  • Oversee the execution of key projects within the Corporate Affairs and Communications portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timelines.
  • Establish project goals, milestones, and deliverables, and monitor progress against established benchmarks.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders to drive collaboration and achieve project objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to project teams, facilitating communication and problem-solving as needed.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and challenges that may impact project success, implementing contingency plans as necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between Corporate Affairs and enterprise project teams, and business leaders.
  • Lead planning and execution of senior leadership team meetings, offsites, ensuring tracking processes are established and follow-up mechanisms are in place.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in communications, public relations, business administration, or related field.
  • Significant previous experience in advancing communication strategies in a complex large enterprise setting with multiple stakeholders and competing interests.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate affairs, communications, strategy, or related roles, with demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic initiatives.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into actionable plans.
  • Excellent project management abilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in corporate affairs, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Act as a key liaison between enterprise and divisional project teams, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to manage through change.
  • Demonstrated leadership and negotiating skills, ideally developed in a large organization.
