Job Description

Our client, one of Canada's most reputable and largest electronics recyclers, is currently looking to hire a Shipping/Receiving Supervisor to join their growing team Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, this is a hands-on role to manage, prepare, maximize, and track all plant inventory, shipping, and receiving functions. This position has direct influence on company revenue and profitability. The Shipping/Receiving Supervisor will be accountable for assigning shipping schedules, maximizing shipping density, on-time departures, accurate paperwork, and transport of dangerous goods, inventory control, managing shipping and receiving functions along with triaging of received material.


Requirements
  1. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  2. Coordinates with the production planner, production supervisors, and other shop personnel to meet plant objectives.
  3. Fosters positive working relationships. Responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints, and other employee relations matters.
  4. Plans, organizes, and supervises the shipping function, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of finished goods to the end customer.
  5. Provides supervision, training in SOP's, scheduling, and guidance to shipping/receiving employees.
  6. Creates and reconciles all receiving and delivery transactions in SAP and all required documents associated with each shipment to required standards.
  7. Determines method of shipment and books appointments within a defined list of carriers, prepares bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents. Creates and hands off complete and appropriate documentation to all parties including drivers.
  8. Ensures that the team complies with plant health and safety requirements and ensures proper methods and standard operating procedures are followed to meet quality, safety, and environment standards.
  9. Conducts inventory counts as required and is responsible for accuracy of inventory and security of it.
  10. Supervises, trains, and reviews performance of shipping/receiving and inventory staff (approx 7 people).
  11. Ensures compliance with regulatory programs and customers regarding the classification of incoming material, standard tare weights, scale calibration and verification, the use of proper codes and ERP system to track and confirm weights, etc.
  12. Recommends measures to improve quality of service, increasing efficiency of department and work crew and equipment performance.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
Health & Safety
  1. Ensure teams are working safely and are adhering to all Health and Safety requirements.
  2. Ensure employees are wearing line-specific personal protective equipment while working.
  3. Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being followed by all the employees in every single production line/workstation.
  4. Identify and address any safety concerns as per Company safety protocol.
  5. Conduct weekly/monthly workplace inspections to identify hazards related to machines, tools, method of working, etc.
  6. Participate in health and safety initiatives relevant to assigned work areas i.e., identify manual/mechanical safety hazards and work with HR/Maintenance/supervisor for immediate fix and/or escalate when necessary.
  7. Ensure new employees are thoroughly communicated about hazards of the job (utilizing the Hazard assessment).
  8. Provide skills training and knowledge sharing to team members.
  9. Contribute to elevating health & safety on the lines and encourage the team to report near misses. Ensure EH&S objectives and targets are achieved.
Qualifications
  1. Minimum 3-5 years experience in Shipping & Receiving and inventory control, ideally in a distribution centre and/or manufacturing environment of which at least 2 years spent supervising a team.
  2. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines.
  3. Strong team player and works in unison with the other operations team members to achieve corporate goals.
  4. Experience using SAP and MS Office.
  5. Highly detail-oriented and ensures accuracy of data and shipping paperwork.
  6. Demonstrated aptitude and ability to understand and comply with Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements and documentation regulations incl. interprovincial, interprovincial and international shipments.
  7. Must be a self-starter with effective planning and organizing skills to manage priorities and complete tasks efficiently and effectively.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and communicate clearly (verbal and written).
  9. Should have a valid forklift license.
