Brampton Ontario, Peel region, Canada Skjodt-Barrett Foods Full time

Who we are

Skjodt-Barrett is a world-class manufacturer of food solutions and custom ingredients for North America's most beloved and trusted brands. We take pride in working closely with our customers to understand their unique needs and create innovative, individualized solutions that deliver joy to their customers.

A family-founded company started over 35 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.

Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and exceed their expectations.

Who we need

Reporting to the Site Manager, we are looking for a QA Coordinator to join our team. You will play a critical role in focusing on the day-to-day activities to meet increased production demands, customer requirements, and quality standards. You will verify process documents, critical control points, and analytical parameters. You will gather, assemble, and release the details for dozens of production runs every week. You will coordinate across teams, with customers, and with the microbiology lab to ensure all quality control measures, both internal and external, have been met and products are released on time with an accompanying summary report.

This is a day shift, Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM.

What’s in it for you

Impact. This is an opportunity to significantly improve the efficiency and ensure the quality of our production. It’s a chance to work with a supportive QA team, as well as production, scheduling, and customer service teams.

Exposure. This is a chance to learn the ins and outs of our high-quality production operations and best practices and gain insights into food production and handling quality standards.

Career development. At Skjodt-Barrett, we value the drive to bring ideas to life and the resilience to be accountable for your actions. We have a proven history of promoting our people with career paths starting on the plant floor or in administration and growing into people and plant leadership roles. This contract may be extended, or other internal opportunities may open. Or you can leverage the industry knowledge and cross-functional exposure to further grow your career in food production or another industrial manufacturing environment.

How you will make an impact:

  • Manage production documents. You will prepare detailed production run folders for every product entering the production floor, ensuring accuracy and completeness. You will review production schedules to ensure compliance with Kosher requirements, working with Production Planners to address any Kosher-related issues. You will collect, review, and trend production documents upon completion of production to ensure compliance with quality standards. You will complete and send Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to customers.
  • Verify quality. You will coordinate the timely submission of microbiological samples to our third-party microbiological lab for clearance. You will review Critical Control Points (CCPs) to ensure all quality checks are passed before the product is cleared for release. If needed, you will address supplier issues, report non-conformance, and move complaint investigations forward. You will work closely with the Customer Service Manager to confirm that finished products are cleared for shipping. When required, you will complete an early release form.
  • Complete reporting and participate in auditing. You will enter KPI and other data into the system and upload documentation to SharePoint. You will maintain run reports, capturing all customer specifications and run parameters provided by microbiology in the run report database. You will regularly review and maintain the database to ensure the accuracy of run parameters. You will participate in audits and traceability exercises to maintain our high quality assurance standards.

What you bring to the role:

  • The experience. You have a science education or background and can read and interpret scientific standards, measurements, processes, and results. You have worked in an industrial manufacturing environment such as food, beverage, pharmacy, cosmetics, etc., and you are comfortable with changing demands. You can manage multiple priorities and projects and meet deliverables and deadlines. You may have HACCP & PCQI certification.
  • The drive. You are naturally curious and have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. You are highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, and excel at planning. You have a continuous learning mindset, always seeking opportunities to increase your knowledge and gain more information.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have professional and flexible verbal and written communication skills, including production schedules and processes and generating reports. You are comfortable working directly with customers and can build strong working relationships across levels and teams with internal and external stakeholders. You genuinely appreciate diverse experiences and backgrounds and are interested in understanding others, hearing their perspectives, and addressing their concerns.
