Position Summary


The Insurance Risk, Claims Adjusting & Loss Prevention Analyst is responsible to oversee, facilitate and manage insurance claims on behalf of the University of Alberta.

The individual will facilitate the process on behalf of all stakeholders including administrators, department and faculty representatives, students, contractors, brokers, third party adjusters, legal services and third party claimants.

The Analyst ensures all factors are considered and completed during an insurance claims review. This includes alignment with university policy, processes and guidelines while facilitating resolution with the insurance company and claimant.

The individual also leads and organizes the loss control process with insurers including engaging and scheduling university stakeholders, reviews all insurer reports, works with internal departments to action insurer requirements.

Reports directly to the Manager of Risk and Insurance.


The Analyst needs to have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with minimum supervision in a highly dynamic and rapidly changing environment, while exhibiting problem solving, analytical and facilitation skills with departments/faculties experiencing a financial loss.

The individual must have exemplary written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent time management skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask is critical for success of the role.


This position is part of an on-call team that is required to respond to after hour calls when large emergencies or potential significant insurance claims occur on the University campus.

This person will be required to make decisions related to losses/items that are insured/not insured as well agreeing to the associated financial costs up to a pre-determined threshold.

Part of the claims process is to understand the business continuity impact during these stressful situations.


As an essential member of a small team, the Risk, Claims Adjusting & Loss Prevention Analyst is responsible for staying informed of activities and initiatives within the unit and assuming critical tasks of the Manager and other Risk Analyst during absence from work.


Duties

  • Facilitates, adjusts and manages insurance claims on behalf of the University of Alberta
  • Provide direction to stakeholders on insurance policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Provide advice and direction to stakeholders on risk mitigation strategies
  • Undertakes incident investigations to assess the root cause of the incident and implements preventive measures to avoid repetitive occurrences
  • Oversight, facilitation and administration of third party adjusters to effectively manage claims to resolution
  • Management and administration of the university claims management database
  • Facilitation, monitoring and reporting for the University's Insurer Loss Prevention processes
  • Generates weekly and monthly reports for review by the department leads
  • Oversight and administration of monthly claim payment and reconciliation process
  • Completes general administration requirements on behalf of the department
  • Works directly with multiple university departments including but not limited to Facilities and Operations, Safety, Legal, Procurement and Contract Management; ensures university standards are integrated into the insurance requirements of the university
