About this opportunity:


The main purpose of this job is to ensure that capital expenditures for select oil sands properties are properly recorded, analyzed and reported.

This includes booking accruals so financial numbers reflect incurred costs, booking adjusting/correcting journal entries and analyzing the data to ensure accuracy.

The role also involves preparing reports to summarize capital spend, analyzing and commenting on variances to budget & forecast and providing commentary for our financial statements.

Responsibilities:

  • Booking and analyzing monthly capital accruals for accountable Oil Sands property (properties).
  • Working with the business and in our accrual tool to get appropriate estimates for accruals and reviewing the data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monthly cost analysis and variance analysis, including explanations of capital spend and variances to budget and forecast.
  • Work with Business to setup and review WBSs/AFEs for capital projects.
  • Monthly Performance Management Reporting (PMR).
  • Journal entries.
  • Participate in quarterly financial statement review and provide information to the financial statement preparers for areas under your accountability.
  • Work with tax and audit teams to assist with capital spend queries.
  • Prepare quarterly accounting memo on exploration and evaluation capital spend.

Qualifications:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in an accounting role.
  • Completed a university degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Oil and Gas experience preferred.
  • Highly organized, adaptive and flexible to deliver time sensitive material.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting practices (IFRS knowledge).
  • Collaborates well with others; will need to work closely with the business and finance teams.
  • Strong communication skills in dealing with multiple business/financial issues and needs.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver on core accountabilities.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and flexibility to learn new systems and processes is an asset.
