The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has an opportunity for an individual to assume the position as a Manager in the Respectful Workplace Section, within the Equity, Inclusion & Human Rights (EIHR) Branch.
The EIHR Branch is committed to providing a respectful, safe, and inclusive workplace for all employees, including sworn and civilian.
The Respectful Workplace Section (RWS) is responsible for providing information and support to sworn and civilian members with the goal of maintaining a respectful workplace.
The RWS will address any inappropriate behavior, or conflicts, within the work area at the earliest stages and assist with implementing restorative workplace practices.
This position reports to the Inspector in charge of the EIHR Branch.Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Define specific objectives and outcomes for the respectful workplace program.
- Develop and implement annual operation goals and objectives to support the strategic and operational objectives within the EPS and Branch.
- Draft and recommend amendments to the EPS Respectful Workplace policy to ensure the organization is meeting all requirements consistent with relevant legislations.
- Develop communication strategies relative to the respectful workplace program.
- Provide support and direction as required on all respectful workplace investigations, both formal and informal investigations.
- Review investigative reports and prepare recommendations for the Chief of Police.
- Provide leadership and guidance for up to four (4) investigators.
- Complete performance reviews for all the investigators.
- Prepare various reviews, reports, and statistical information for communication to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assess and manage the risks associated with complaints investigated pursuant to the EPS Respectful Workplace Policy.
- Liaise, and collaborate, with internal and external stakeholders, throughout the respectful workplace issue resolution process.
- Work with the EIHR Branch Management to develop and refine internal processes for the respectful work resolution process.
- Foster and sustain internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Identify and develop appropriate recommendations for emerging equity issues within a policing context.
- Assist work areas with the building, and then maintaining, a respectful workplace.
- Provide guidance and advice relative to the development of programs and plans aimed at fostering and sustaining organizational equity.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A University degree in Social Sciences, Human Resources Management, or other related discipline. Master's degree or equivalent would be considered an asset.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience working in the areas of workplace harassment, discrimination, human rights, alternative dispute resolution, equity, and policy.
- A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a large, diverse organization.
- Advanced Harassment Investigation certificate and ADR certificate would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience conducting workplace harassment investigations.
- Strong understanding of systemic discrimination, harassment, human rights, equity, and inclusion.
- Working knowledge of policy, legislation, and best practices as it relates to harassment in the workplace, the Alberta Human Rights Act, Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Police Act/Police Service Regulation.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and mentorship in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Detail orientated.
- Proven ability to assess and realign priorities on an ongoing basis.
- Experience working with access and privacy legislation.
- Ability to work in a digital environment (MS Office, Abode, IAPro, CARM, EPROS, CPIC, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to present to various audiences.
- As part of your prehire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
