The
Behavior Consultant works with and as a part of the inter-professional consultant team to plan and deliver individualized behavioral consulting services to children with autism and other developmental delays to support their development and to enhance their functional abilities.

We provide family-centered services within the home, school or community to meet the complex needs of children who have autism and other developmental disorders using the SCERTS Model.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess children's clinical needs through a combination of observation, functional behavior assessments and discussion with caregivers
  • Develop functional goals in collaboration with the family and the team
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the child's program on an ongoing basis
  • Develop positive behavior plans based on the function of a child's behavior
  • Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and parents in regards to a child's behavior needs and support school staff to implement strategies in a classroom setting
  • Maintain clients' files; recording assessment, goals, and consultation notes
  • Provide strategies, activity suggestions and support to the child's parents/guardians and child support workers
  • Attend team meetings, clinical meetings and meetings in the community as needed
  • Collaborate within an interprofessional team
  • Identify and communicate appropriately any issues that arise or are predicted to arise that may jeopardize the family, the team or the organization
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all policies and procedures of the organization
  • Contribute to program development and clinical quality initiatives for the organization

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Psychology, Education or Special Education, BCBA designation, or related degree
  • Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or other developmental disabilities
  • Experience in developing behavior support plans
  • Experience in providing consultation to families in behavior management
  • Experience in crisis intervention and prevention
  • Proficient in written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver's license and access to vehicle with business insurance, and willingness to travel to different locations throughout Edmonton and area
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, Child Intervention check, First Aid & levelC CPR, Safe Management (this is provided)
