The Court and Justice Services (CJS) Branch provides a wide range of resolution and court services for people involved in legal disputes.

In collaboration with the courts of Alberta, Court and Justice Services provides various programs and services including educating and helping Albertans finding solutions for legal issues, navigating the court system, offering programs at no cost or a nominal charge, and administrative support to all courts in Alberta.

The Civil Mediation Program serves Albertans across the province who are involved in a civil legal matter, and this position is assigned to the regional team that provides mediation services in six locations (Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, Medicine Hat, and Lethbridge).

This is a position that requires flexibility, a calm demeanor, and a willingness to learn and adapt to change.

As Program Support to the Regional Civil Mediation team, you are the first point of contact for Alberta Justice.

Your duties in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating the scheduling of virtual mediation appointments.
  • Drafting mediation documents.
  • Entering and updating documentation, information and results on the databases (CASES and CRM).
  • Preparing electronic files using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Responding to general inquiries from internal and external stakeholders and clients in person, by telephone and through written correspondence.
  • Providing support to mediators in preparation of meetings.
  • Scheduling appointments in Outlook and Zoom.
  • Providing assistance with troubleshooting technical difficulties experienced by mediators and participants using Zoom.
  • Maintaining financial and statistical information for reporting.
  • Generating invoices.
  • Assisting with maintenance of mediator roster list.
  • Assisting with learning event setup.
  • General office duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:


A post-secondary certificate or diploma in Business Administration, Administrative Assistant, or Legal Assistant/Paralegal; and three years of directly related experience are required.

  • Some training in and/or understanding of dispute resolution services and processes.
  • Related experience as a Legal Assistant or Judicial Clerk.
  • Experience with scheduling appointments in a virtual environment.
  • Proficiency in database entry.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.

Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
