The Brant County Health Unit is looking to hire two Permanent Full-Time Program Directors that will provide strategic senior leadership to our Health Protection or Healthy Communities teams.

About the position:
The Program Directors report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

The Directors will provide leadership in the planning, implementing, and evaluating all physical, financial, and human resources associated with the assigned programs and services to meet the Ontario Public Health Standards.

The Directors are accountable for the integration, collaboration, coordination, and quality assurance of the programs.


The successful incumbents will be members of the senior leadership team and direct the work of a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of the Ontario Public Health Standards.

These standards are to be delivered in a manner that adheres to the Health Protection and Promotion Act, other provincial legislation, and Health Unit policies.

As well, the programs must be developed in a manner that addresses specific community needs, the regional and divisional strategic plan and ensures the use of evidence-informed decision making.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership and direction for their respective program areas in terms of Public Health programming and ensures the Health Unit's corporate culture and values are endorsed.
  • Providing leadership and direction in the community, promoting the wellbeing of residents, by strategically developing innovative programs for Public Health service delivery.
  • Directing all aspects of operations for programming including program development, delivery, and evaluation as well as staff development for several, diverse types of programming (clinical, counselling, group education, policy, etc.).
  • Developing strategic plans and business plans with a strong evidence base for the program standards team as a whole and for the individual programs.
  • Anticipating and responding to changes in health recommendations, City of Brantford or County of Brant bylaws and provincial agreements or legislation.
  • Complex analysis and priority setting, developing, implementing, and evaluating Public Health programming to adhere to the Ministry of Health's Public Health Standards and service agreements with other Ministries and agencies.
  • Developing and administering a complex operational budget for a team of multidisciplinary staff to support multiple different programs within the Healthy Communities team, providing justification to the Medical Officer of Health, and Chief Executive Officer
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders at the senior leadership team level as well as at an operational level for Ontario Health Team, hospitals, Boards of Education, Boards of, local Health, associations, provincial/federal associations, Public Health Agency of Canada, Provincial Planners Association.
  • Participating in local and provincial boards and strategic committees providing expertise and strategic judgement (Ontario Public Health Association, Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion, Ontario Society of Nutrition Professionals in Public Health).
  • Providing leadership in the City of Brantford and the County of Brant on Public Health issues; influencing decision making on issues that affect health status and the delivery of health services.
  • Providing expert health advice to ensure Public Health programs and services meet the Ministry of Health's Public Health Standards.
  • In accordance with provincial standards, provide an effective response to emergencies with a Public Health impact, i.e. Covid19, H1N1, chemical spill, etc.
  • During emergency response, make strategic decisions related to the emergency. Assume roles for key areas related to the emergency, and provide decisive, efficient action to direct and manage
