Job Summary:
The Health Promotions Coordinator will facilitate the public health and wellness of the Ontario Tech campus community.
The CPHC will participate on, report to and act as a resource for various university committees and other internal and external stakeholders related to campus and student health.
The position will act as a University representative with professional organizations, such as the Durham Region Health Department, on public health, disease prevention and surveillance, pandemic planning and outbreak management, among others.
The CPHC work is grounded in evidence-based theories of student development and health and wellness, with a focus on the seven dimensions of wellness.
The incumbent will include involvement from students, staff, and faculty as well as community agencies whenever possible in their program development.
The work of the CPHC will also include collaboration with Student Life and university-wide members in the identification of health-related behaviours that support the mission and values of Ontario Tech UniversityResponsibilities/accountabilities:
1. Health Promotion Programming
- Develops and implements an annual plan for health promotion programs and activities which includes, but is not limited to, delivering workshops and marketing of the health promotions department and developing partnerships with internal campus departments and external agencies (including Public Health) to bring the most relevant and effective strategies and programs to students.
- Responsible for utilizing the health promotions budget to deliver as many resources as possible to students for the enhancement of their education and wellness. Incumbent will develop an annual budget proposal for supervisory approval.
- Participates in all student orientation and Start Strong activities to ensure early awareness of health promotions to new students and their families.
- Committee Participation and Professional Development
- Active participant on numerous campus committees to represent health and wellness concerns for the students and the larger campus community
- Participates in a minimum of 10 hours of professional development annually to stay current with emerging issues and best practices.
- Assessment /Support Service
- Provides support to students who present issues or challenges by evaluating student needs and referring and following up as appropriate.
- Assesses programming, surveys as well as community initiatives to determine best strategy for the Ontario Tech community and its partners
- Using a solid theoretical base, the Coordinator is responsible for needs assessment for the campus community to identify priorities in health prevention and promotional activities.
- Leadership
- Assists in recruitment and selection and provides developmental opportunities and supervision to student volunteers, placements and workstudy in health promotion.
Required Skills:
- Program planning and coordinating

- Confidence is advising or guiding others
- Ability to work independently and as part of team
- Strong and creative communication techniques
Required Education:
- 3 year degree in nursing, health promotion or equivalent
Required
- First Aid, CPR, Mental Health First Aid
Preferred
- SMART serve and courses related to identification of substance abuse
Preferred
- Course related to adult education, program delivery and health promotion
- Recommended non violent crisis intervention
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required
Required Experience:
- 13 years
- Incumbent must have experience working in a post secondary environment with understanding
mature, LGBTQ, multicultural, and on-line.
