Skaha Property Management, owned by Enso Group Developments, is looking for a Hotel Manager (HM) to oversee operations of the Beachside Motel, Sunnybeach Motel and the Waterfront Inn in Penticton, BC. The motels have a combined number of 70 rooms and are a choice of repeat summer destinations for many families. While the properties are older, with a plan for redevelopment, there are many opportunities for short-term changes to improve the operations.

About the Role

The Hotel Manager role demands dual strategic and operational skillsets. The Hotel Manager (HM) delivers corporate oversight and governance while ensuring operational accountability, process development, and process optimization.

The HM will work with the Owner to provide regular direction and oversee operations of the Motels as follows:

Financial Returns

  • Oversee front office, revenue, and reservation functions to ensure the delivery of superior guest service.
  • Ensure the security of monies, credit card transactions and guest information.
  • Maintain proper accounting records for the motels as per Special Purpose Vehicle Controller requirements.
  • Monitor and report variances against budget; control labor costs and other expenses.
  • Deliver regular reporting data using provided report templates.
  • Participate in regular meetings reviewing key hotel metrics and budgets.
  • Adopt best revenue management practices.
  • Support the future development of the properties in all applicable areas, such as financial planning, brand development, programming, and operational planning.

Responsible Business

  • Oversee housekeeping and maintenance functions to ensure compliance with quality standards in all areas of the Motels as it relates to appearance, cleanliness, and levels of maintenance and repair; ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place to protect the physical assets of the Motel.
  • Notify Special Purpose Vehicle management concerning the need for any major repairs.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, employees and motel assets.
  • Manage any onsite issues and provide Support Office with completed Incident Reports as required.
  • Ensure that goals are established and achieved to meet the Motel's overall financial objectives.
  • Maintain a proactive human resources function to ensure positive employee relations, training and development, wage/benefit administration and compliance with policies and procedures and labor regulations.
  • Implement and maintain accounting and purchasing controls and procedures, as required.
  • Seek out operational efficiencies (staffing, facilities programming, etc.) in order to meet the short- and long-term goals of the properties.

People

  • Promote teamwork and quality service through regular communication and coordination with staff and contractors (as applicable).
  • Foster positive employee relations and reconcile time edits and payroll administration in compliance with wage and hour regulations.
  • Ensure all staff are properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their job functions as provisioned by the Company.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and assignments of the Motel staff.
  • Assist the Special Purpose Vehicle management team in the development and communication of the Motel strategies and goals. Communicate and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Develop, manage, and foster positive Special Purpose Vehicle partner relationships.

Guest Experience

  • Interact with outside contacts: Guests – to ensure guest satisfaction; Vendors – to resolve any vendor performance issues, etc.; Regulatory agencies – regarding safety and compliance matters; Other contacts as needed (Professional organizations, community groups)
  • Establish and implement appropriate service recovery guidelines to ensure guest satisfaction. Respond to guest complaints or concerns in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as required to develop the Motel business' evolution.
  • Ensure Special Purpose Vehicle's interests and objectives are achieved.

Operational Oversign: Process Development / Optimization

In preparation for the critical summer months, the following processes require strategic thinking towards optimizing efficiencies. These processes also require daily oversight and execution support:

  • Strong level of personal and professional integrity.
  • Strong computer literacy skills (MS Office proficiency) and fluency with POS systems.
  • Fluency with varied applications and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Strong problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with guests, employees and third parties that reflects highly on the Motels and Skaha Property Management
