What you will do
The Senior Library Assistant, Wellbeing & Community Connections will work with staff to develop and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all by frequently roaming the Library, connecting with and checking on the wellbeing of customers. The position holder will also support relationships with community partners in support of the vulnerable community.

In this role you will:

  • Provide support services to library customers with complex needs
  • Proactively engage and build trust with customers to support successful access of library spaces
  • Connect customers to information, community, and internal resources
  • Work to identify and proactively address customer wellbeing and conduct concerns, including responding to emergency calls, supporting first-responding staff, verbally de-escalating and resourcing incidents of unsustainable customer conduct as needed
  • Collaboratively develop, deliver and facilitate individual or group programming for vulnerable or marginalized community members
  • Research and generate ideas and topics for programs to support individuals with complex needs

What you bring

  • Post-secondary degree in Social Sciences, Community Services, Health or related discipline
  • One to two years' experience in a customer service environment, working directly with the public
  • Experience in non-violent conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated experience working with those who may be street involved, suffering from addiction or experiencing mental health challenges

Pay: $28.98-$33.60 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Evening shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
