We are seeking a talented Urban Designer to join our civil engineering consultancy client, who serve a diverse range of private development and public sector clients. This intermediate-level position requires professional-level duties and judgment, along with the ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate with planners and project managers. If you are passionate about urban planning and possess strong design and analytical skills, we invite you to apply for this great role.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, or a related field
  • 2-7 years of urban planning experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and illustrative skills utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator/InDesign
  • Experience with the land development process, including site planning and neighbourhood plans
  • Ability to review plans for compliance with regulations and create graphic designs and development strategies.

Nice to Haves:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Ability to render site plans via sketches or computer graphics

Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced subdivision and conceptual layout designs
  • Conduct advanced illustrative design and master planning exercises
  • Review development proposals and site plans for conformance with regulations
  • Evaluate rezoning, subdivision applications, site plans, special use permits, and variances
  • Communicate with and manage outcomes from sub-consultants and outside agencies
  • Develop, maintain, and adjust project schedules
  • Advise clients and outside agencies on delays
  • Conduct overall design review and analysis
  • Review and approve cost estimates
  • Provide high-level design advice to clients
  • Advise clients and municipal staff on critical technical matters
  • Chair meetings with clients and municipal staff
  • Negotiate, provide advice, or determine outcomes on behalf of clients
  • Negotiate with approving agencies on design requirements or alternatives
  • Conduct site visits as needed
  • Review, evaluate, and finalize basic technical writing
  • Attend evening and/or weekend meetings as needed
  • Manage internal planning teams (1-3 staff)
  • Mentor junior staff
