Compensation Range

$4, $6,754.00 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position.

The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position.

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Human Resource Management responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements organizational changes required to maintain optimal workflow and human resource levels for SALA operations.
  • Interprets and administers collective agreements and other relevant agreements and employment guidelines for faculty, staff and students.
  • Assists ADAAO in suggesting strategies and implementing staff training initiatives to ensure effective staff orientation, team building and ongoing development.
  • Responsible for all employee onboarding of new employees.

Staff HR responsibilities:

  • Supporting the ADAAO by analysing classification levels to ensure compliance to union and employee group standards and implement changes as needed.
  • Assists ADAAO with staff recruitment, performance review process, disciplinary activity management, and staff hires and onboarding.
  • Ensures followthrough with the Performance Review process; tracks annual review schedules for all staff, ensuring managers conduct them at appropriate time, ensuring timely midpoint progression increases or merit consideration.
  • Tracks milestone events (probationary periods, term end dates, and notice periods) and initiates actions as appropriate on behalf of the supervisor.
  • Tracking/maintenance of school level absence and vacation policies, absence records.

Faculty HR responsibilities:

  • Assists with the administrative process for tenure/tenure track faculty searches and appointment process for faculty hires, hiring processes of sessional and adjunct Instructors, and faculty leaves in compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Administers the faculty Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure (ARPT) process for SALA. Advises the ADAAO and Director as needed on collective agreement, timeline and procedural matters.
  • Acts as a resource for SALA faculty seeking advice on human resource policy interpretation and procedural matters such as leaves, benefits, and retirement.
  • Assists with onboarding of new faculty.

Student employee HR responsibilities:

  • Manages SALA student hiring policies, procedures, and work flow, develops procedures to ensure student hires comply with UBC, union and/or granting agency requirements.
  • Sets staffing levels and pay rate guidelines. Consults with the Director / ADAAO and the Academic Affairs Committee on pedagogical needs and approves ongoing faculty requests for course support within those guidelines.
  • Writes job descriptions and advises SALA staff and faculty on Work Lean proposals and hires.
  • Manages onboarding activities for student employees and training programs.
  • Assists staff with student employee timesheet approval process in Workday and approves timesheets in Workday for faculty student employees.
Other responsibilities

  • Shares administrative support duties with the Financial Coordinator.

WORK PERFORMED

  • Manages and facilitates assignment and hiring of CUPE 2278 teaching assistants (TAs) for the academic department; ensures departmental compliance with the CUPE 2278 Collective Agreement; develops and implements new processes or tools to improve the efficiency of CUPE 2278 HR processes for the department; contributes to facultylevel discussions and initiatives within Applied Science that relate to TA hiring and management.
  • Provides highlevel advice and recommendations to faculty members and staff managers on terms of employment, employee recruitment, performance management, leave and benefits entitlements, position classifications, compensation, annual reviews and other HR issues of a complex or non
- routine nature.

  • Provides highlevel advice and information on UBC, Applied Science and school policies, procedures and practices; the interpretation of collective agreements; and other agreements and handbooks governing conditions of employment, including legislation affecting the work place (e.g., BC Employment Standards Act, BC Human Rights Code and BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act); consulting APSC HR when required.
