Intercity Packers is the largest meat/seafood distribution company in Western Canada and part of the Gordon Food Service (GFS) Canada group of companies, recognized by Forbes magazine to be among Canada's Best Employers in 2022. As our innovative business continues to rapidly grow, we are seeking a full-time Human Resources Generalist to meet the growing needs of GFS Specialty Companies Intercity Packers and Fresh Start Foods at our two (2) Richmond locations.

Position:

Full-Time, Permanent

Salary:

From $65,000/year, plus bonus and other compensations

Essential Functions:
  1. Acts as a liaison between HR Shared Services and the division, understanding and supporting business needs.
  2. Assists in local sourcing and retention efforts, attending job fairs and partnering with community organizations.
  3. Manages workforce planning and oversees internal posting/offer processes.
  4. Coordinates and participates in various HR events, including training, wellness, and orientation.
  5. Handles biweekly payroll and onboarding processes for new employees from offer through 90 days.
  6. Educates leadership on Performance Management and provides basic employee relations coaching.
  7. Plans and supports benefits enrollment, educating employees on retirement plans and wellness initiatives.
  8. Supports Workers Compensation, disability, and leave administration, serving as a point of contact.
  9. Interprets HR metrics and provides insights on turnover, new hires, diversity, and other metrics.
  10. Manages administrative functions, including processing unemployment claims and new hires.
  11. Evaluates and processes third-party vendor bills for payment.
  12. Administers off-boarding processes, including paperwork, retirement information, and departure surveys.
  13. Performs other assigned duties.
Requirements:

+4 years Human Resources Experience, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.

Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Human Resources preferred.

Excellent communication, presentation skills, and problem-solving skills.

Thorough understanding of GFS culture, policies, and employment-related laws and regulations.

Knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.

Ability to develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to policies and practices for guidance.

Equipment / Tools / Technology:
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, email, internet and HRIS software applications
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Knowledge of the Google Suite as well as Workday an asset
  • Knowledge of the UKG/Kronos an asset
