Rainy River Mine

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear, and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports, and lake country, then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the Impact Benefits Agreement (IBA) and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Ontario communities. Position: Welding Lead Hand

Position Reports To: Welding Foreman

Position Overview

The role of the Welding Lead Hand is to lead and influence the safe and efficient delivery of reliability-centered maintenance practices and programs for the mining fleet with a specific focus on the welding team in conformance with New Gold's policies and procedures including cultural, safety, and environmental conformance.

Responsible for:
  1. The safe, quality work of the welding crew and contractors in an efficient, environmentally conscious, and productive manner.
  2. Providing supervisor responsibility coverage for the welding foreman when they are absent from site.
  3. Making every effort to meet or exceed the planned time requirements for welding activities.
  4. Verify scopes of work, timelines, and materials required on work generated from inspections and break-in schedule work requirements.
  5. Complete concise, accurate cross over notes detailing work completed, work in-progress, and upcoming requirements for the next shift.
  6. Assist with counting, ordering, and storage of inventory for consumables, gasses, steel, and parts.

Will be required to complete the Ontario Supervisor Common Core In addition, the successful candidate will possess:

  • Interprovincial Welder certification
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Related technical knowledge
  • SAP or similar CMMS experience
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, organization, leadership, and Microsoft Office Suite

Candidates should have strong leadership skills with the ability to evaluate and positively influence performance to create a dynamic, self-accountable workforce.
