Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Schedule: Shift 7 Days On / 7 Days Off - Rotating Days & Nights

Position Reports To: Construction Superintendent/Construction Supervisor

Position Overview

Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, this is a highly visible position with responsibility to provide results driven leadership to the construction department. This department is responsible for various earthworks scopes of work including, but not limited to the construction of water management structures (ie. dams, ditches, berms, haul and access roads, laydowns etc.)

The key areas of accountability for the Construction Supervisor are safety, quality, and production (in that order). hand will also provide leave coverage for the Construction supervisor as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily toolbox talks
  • Provide clear and concise communication regarding the daily work plans to the crews
  • Ensure that all safety processes and procedures are in place and adhered to (ie. Safe Operating Procedures, Safe Work Plans, Field Level Risk Assessments etc.)
  • Complete Environmental, PPE and Safety audits as required
  • Complete yearly performance reviews of employees in your charge
  • Effectively utilize the manpower and equipment to achieve quality results in a safe and productive manner
  • Incident investigations and reporting in New Gold's reporting system (INX)
  • Read, interpret project plans and specifications to mitigate the requirement for rework
  • Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met
  • Work closely with Construction Coordinator and Survey to ensure plans are created and followed in proper sequence
  • Coordinate with contractors in area to ensure a safe, productive work environment
  • Relay any potential work front pinch points with contractors to Coordinators to facilitate continuous work flow
  • Document the work via field reports and photographs as required
  • Coordinate with training on Operator skill assessments, plans for development and future opportunities

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience, preferably in an industrial construction environment
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role
  • Civil Engineering graduate (technicians or engineer) or suitable combination of education and experience
  • Candidates should have strong leadership skills with the ability to evaluate and positively influence performance to create a dynamic, self-accountable work force.
