Coordinator, Indigenous Student Access

Duties:
Reporting to the Director, Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement and the tiwšɛmawtxw Campus Administrator, this position works directly with Indigenous students in the qathet region enrolled in VIU courses and programs, connecting them with academic supports and resources, such as advising, counselling, student aid, enrolment support, tutoring, peer support, IT help, cultural support, etc. This position is dedicated to empowering Indigenous learners to achieve success and realize their academic and professional goals.
Specific responsibilities include:
Meeting with students to identify relevant resources and supports tailored to their needs Monitoring student progress, including regular check-ins Supporting students' completion of coursework by connecting them with instructors, tutors, and other resources Helping students navigate the VIU Learn online learning platform Assisting students complete registration, scholarship, and other forms/processes Helping students make appointments with VIU resource people and accompanying students to appointments with VIU resource people, such as Academic AdvisorsRequired Qualifications:
Two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant subject area, or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited institution, and a minimum of three years recent relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Effective communication, verbally and in writing Excellent planning and organizational skills Creativity and flexibility in problem-solving Ability to work independently and as part of a team Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Valid Class 5 Driver's license and a confirmed satisfactory driving recordPreferred Qualifications:
