The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (CCMH at SickKids) is a child and youth mental health centre integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

CCMH at SickKids is undertaking an ambitious agenda to establish a revitalized academic community mental health centre that provides the highest quality of care, combined with excellence in teaching and community-based research.

CCMH at SickKids is located across two sites in Toronto and offers both in-person and virtual care to clients and their families, from prevention and early intervention through assessment, counselling and therapy and intensive services.

We are also connected to the continuum of mental health services for children and youth supported by SickKids:

the Brain and Mental Health Program, the SickKids TeleLink Mental Health Program, the SickKids CCMH Learning Institute and our online resources through AboutKidsHealth.

We are seeking applicants to fill a full-time contract position as a Communications Advisor

This role will support:


  • Internal and external communications, including major campaigns and corporate initiatives (reporting to the Senior Communications Supervisor)
  • The strategic focus of developing pathways to care for services between The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) and other system partners (reporting to the Senior Clinical Manager of the Mental Health Access Program, Research and Foundation Operations, and consulting with the Senior Communications Supervisor).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with the Senior Communications Supervisor and the Senior Clinical Manager, MHAP, Research and Foundation Operations you will**:

Engage in planning and strategy

  • Colead the annual report project (planning, editing, writing)
  • Develop a social media strategy for the Centre, working with the Centre partners
  • Building strategic communications plans in collaborations with the Pathways Working Group and other system partners to support the Pathways workplans

Provide operational support for the development of core communication deliverables

  • Write for different target audiences, including staff and clients/families and program participants, on major organizational initiatives for , outcomes measures and measurementbased care, and research updates
  • Write and edit posts, including team highlights, for our internal staff news site, _Connections_, on SharePoint
  • Edit and lay out monthly staff enewsletter _CCMH Connects_ on MailChimp on alternate months
  • Work with internal and external partners in designing bimonthly content for our lobby screens for clients and families using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva
  • Create a weekly editorial content calendar for Centre's X and LinkedIn accounts
  • Maintain a monthly measurement and reporting process for internal and external comms channels
  • Plan, film and edit brief client orientation videos for our website, including pathways navigation videos
  • Contribute to development of internal and external content for the organization's recognition days editorial calendar
  • Edit, finalize and publish website updates using WordPress
  • Support staff teams in creating SharePoint pages
  • Maintain updates to referral criteria across all Pathways programs including SickKids, GH-CCMH, and other system partners that can be communicated internally to staff at both sites
  • Communicate referral criteria to different target audiences, including staff and clients/families and program participants
  • Assist with communications requests from leadership and staff, including designing/editing promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva
  • Support other communications requests as required

  • Comply with the organization's vision, policies and procedures
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management

Effort

  • Concentration and creativity are required daily to write/edit and proofread communications, attend meetings (virtual and in person across sites)
  • Sitting at a desk for long periods of time daily (i.e. to use a computer) to perform the duties of the job

Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related area is required
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of writing experience in journalism, internal and/or communications or public relations agency settings
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal skills; deep knowledge of CP style
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), social media platforms (X, LinkedIn) and MailChimp
  • Understanding of accessibility needs in communications and AODA compliance
