We are currently seeking a
Health & Safety Coordinator to join the Richmond Hill facility.

The H&S Coordinator plays a key role in the reduction and elimination of incidents and injuries in the workplace through monitoring, coaching, and supporting the Rebar shop and company as a whole.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to hourly and salaried staff by having a visible presence on the Production floor.
  • Be responsible for conducting health and safety orientations (for employees and subcontractors), performing work site inspections, and investigating incidents and injuries/claims
  • Communicate and coordinate Occupational Health & Safety procedures, policies and systems on a daily basis to all sitebased personnel;
  • Assess training requirements for management, supervision, Joint Health and Safety Committee members, and hourly employees.
  • Plan for, coordinate, and conduct health and safety training including but not limited to: orientations, WHMIS, CPR/First Aid, and specialized training (if possible)
  • Escalate health and safety issues to shift supervisors and/or department managers
  • Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations and communicate situations to site management
  • Provide coaching and support on health and safety requirements to the hourly and salary workers.
  • Conduct regular walkthru inspections and audits of construction areas. This includes site inspections; equipment checks and regular spot checks;
  • Provide required monthly safety performance reports to management, identify trends, recommend initiatives to reduce incidents and improve prevention initiatives
  • Initiate incident investigations for all accidents, incidents and near misses alongside the Site Supervisor in a timely manner;
  • Lead weekly tool box talks;
  • Assist with injury management, compliance with company's returntowork policy; Administration of health and safety forms including: Form 7, correspondence to WSIB regarding claims and early and safe return to work programs, modified duty reports and tracking sheet.
  • Conduct job safety analyses (JSA), safe work procedures (SWP), and physical demands analyses (PDA).
  • Seek continuous improvement to health, safety, security and environment programs by assisting in inspections and audits, and implementation of subsequent action plans.
  • Perform other project related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 35 years of practical health and safety experience onsite expertise on large scale manufacturing sites
  • Postsecondary certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health and Safety is required
  • Knowledgeable in Occupational Health and Safety legislation, along with the construction, industrial, and manufacturing regulations
  • Knowledge of Ontario's Certificate of Recognition (COR) and possessing auditor qualifications and experience will be an asset
  • Knowledge of Environmental Compliance legislation and the general management of waste, water, air, chemicals, etc.,
  • Proficient with computer software's, Microsoft Office skills are required
  • Ability to influence others to follow safety practices, procedures, and regulations
  • Exceptional interpersonal abilities and solid communication skills are necessary
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Organizational and planning skills with ability to delegate or escalate to management when required
  • Selfdirected, ability to take initiative, and perform as part of a team
  • First Aid and CPR certificate is an asset.
  • Valid Drivers' License
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
