Biologica is a growing family-owned and operated Canadian aquatic biomonitoring company, located in Victoria, BC.

We are a close-knit team of biologists and technicians whose primary focus is the identification of organisms (mainly invertebrates and algae) collected from a variety of aquatic habitats (freshwater and marine) in support of environmental monitoring initiatives.

About the Role:

As a Data Technician at Biologica, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our data management processes.

This position involves a variety of data processing tasks including data cleaning, consolidation, and compilation, ensuring data accuracy and integrity across our projects.

You will work closely with our Data Manager, Data Analyst, Lab Manager, and other key team members, embracing our high standards of service and teamwork ethos.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily data management tasks, including data consolidation, validation, and cleanup using Excel.
  • Maintain and update data files with wellnotated metadata, ensuring data sets are prepared with the correct formatting before delivery to clients.
  • Work collaboratively with taxonomists and lab technicians to clarify project details and verify data and sample accuracy.
  • Contribute to project planning and prioritization to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Support database and information system maintenance under the Data Manager's guidance.
  • Engage in team meetings to discuss progress and insights from data processing tasks.

Required Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Proficient in written and verbal communication, demonstrating professionalism.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Familiarity with R software and Zotero
  • Exceptional organizational skills, capable of multitasking efficiently.
  • Detailoriented with strong problemsolving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Resilient under pressure with a capacity to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experienced in collaboration with leadership teams.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude, integrity, and a proactive work ethic.
  • Independent worker, able to manage tasks with mínimal supervision.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Adaptable to evolving job requirements.
  • A proven selfstarter who takes initiative and thrives in a fastpaced environment and able find new ways to contribute and innovate during slower periods.

Additional Skills Considered Valuable:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of aquatic invertebrate biology, taxonomy, and ecology is an asset.

This position offers an hourly wage ranging from $23 to $25, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Salary:
$23.00-$25.00 per hour
