World Learning is seeking a part-time In-Country Program Coordinator in Canada to help recruit, screen, prepare, and follow-up with high school age participants for a 3-week U.S.

government exchange program to the United States. This position is home-based and involves coordination with World Learning staff in Washington, D.C.

General Description of Program:

The overall goal of this program is to provide a leadership exchange for Canadian high school students and adult mentors.

Funded by the U.S.

Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Youth Division, this program exposes the Canadian students to cross-cultural understanding, leadership development and an awareness of civic responsibility during a three-week exchange to the United States.

Students travel to the Washington, D.C. for their orientation, spend ten-days with host families throughout the United States and return Washington D.C. to conclude their program.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Youth Ambassadors Program with Canada;
  • Serve as the incountry point of contact for the U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section in Ottawa;
  • Facilitate English language screenings as needed;
  • Ensure participants receive notification of selection and predeparture orientation material;
  • Serve as the incountry point of contact for participants and parents/guardians;
  • Assist participants through arranging domestic travel within Canada;
  • Prepare logistics for the Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO);
  • Manage the

PDO:
icebreakers/team building; program objectives; participant goals; traveling; life in the U.S.; U.S. stereotypes and perceptions, and cultural adjustment;

  • Travel to the U.S. on the international exchange as needed and if available to support health, safety and program implementation;
  • Monitor the implementation of participants' followon projects, maintaining communication with participants and supporting their projects and development;
  • Prepare the agenda and support the facilitation for the virtual reunion;
  • Provide evaluation reports on participants and their followon activities;
  • Collaborate with DC staff on planning and facilitating Alumni events as necessary;
  • Provide financial reports, as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and French;
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree and related work experience;
  • Office work experience and strong computer skills, including Excel;
  • Strong crosscultural and communications skills;
  • Detailoriented with excellent organizational ability;
  • Energetic and strong team player;
  • Experience with international student programs, event management, or youth programming desirable
