- create opportunities for international and Canadian students and program participants to interact;

UAI is recruiting

students to assist
with our International Student and Visitor Services (ISVS) unit.**The Program Assistants will provide support in student engagement through the effective planning, logistics, communications, volunteer management and delivery of programming for international undergraduate and graduate students and university administrators. They will also assist with data entry and general office duties.


They will work with the greater team to provide programming and settlement services for the campus community with a focus on international students and visitors.


Duties

  • Plan and deliver social events for international and domestic students and other visitors within defined budgets and in adherence to risk management policies
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Organize, update, and maintain resources, schedules, and contact records
  • Generate contract and award letters for program participants
  • Analyze and compile statistics for reporting purposes
  • Organize electronic documents and maintain digital filing systems
  • Maintain online presence in social media
  • Assist with daytoday operations and perform other duties as required
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment, training and management.
  • Lead volunteers in organizing and evaluating social events
  • Coordinate up to 6 overnight trips for groups of participants
  • Accompany groups of students on overnight trips and stay in hostelstyle accommodation
  • Lead excursions within Edmonton using both chartered and public transportation
  • Assist with daytoday program operations and perform other duties as required


These positions require work during regular business hours, evenings and weekends, and may require up to 6 overnight trips with groups of students.


Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated intercultural competence.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with superb attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be selfdirected
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor large groups
  • Ability to work in a team environment, take initiative, and work under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a culturally diverse team.
  • An understanding of issues international students face when coming to Canada.
  • An ability to clearly articulate the student experience (e.g. workloads, time management, etc.)
  • Experience with program or event planning would be an asset.
  • Experience volunteering with the University of Alberta International would be an asset (EASI, Airport booth, campus checkin, etc)
  • First Aid Certification would be an asset.

Additional Information
This position will work 15 hrs/week between September and April with a possibility of extension. Weekly schedule will depend upon activities and shifts could include evenings or weekends.

Overnight trips will typically require work from Friday through Sunday and when a trip is scheduled 15 hours per week will be exceeded.
